Outlook Express looking for password.
I have a client who uses OE on various computers to check email address.
OE asks for a password on some attempts to check the mail.
The password is saved in the setup and most of the time checks the mail without asking for a password but once in a while the password dialog box will appear.
Is anyone familiar with this problem and what is causing it?

If he is using it on multiple systems and more than one instance is running ( ie set to autocheck) there is a possibility that the mail server is being checked by two programs at the same time pop locking the account.

For clarity's sake, don't use "<ip address of hostname>" use the ACTUAL 32-bit numeric IP address of the machine.

blue,
I have had this issue many times and this fixes it up for me.

Let me know if that works for you or not.
Edit: Does this happen on all OE setups that he tries to use or just one?

It's happening on all Mikee.
That resolution on the MS site is only good for password being saved.
In this case the password works most of the time but only once in a while will prompt for the password.
It could be a multiple attempt issue.

blue,
Ahhh okay! So its all locations, and that link will not apply. In the past I had an issue with (if running cpanel) the amount of attempts per hour. I had to raise that a little bit because the user was getting the same thing your user is getting.
Not sure if that would be the problem or not, but its worth a check.
