Dealing with subdomains when running locally

I'm working on a php based file download site where the download page for every file has a url like this: h??p://filename.mysite.com
I want to run this site locally for debugging and testing, but I get a "filename.localhost" not found error in my browser when I try to access a download page locally.

I'm running apache2 on WinXP and set it up so I can access the sites home page by typing h??p:// localhost/mysite/ . The site's files are in c:\web .

    Thanks for any help!

    I believe if you add

    127.0.0.1 *.localhost

to your hosts file you will be fine. Google "windows hosts file" and you'll find the location.
