I take it you'd rather avoid places like Dell and Gateway? If not, they sell lots of prebuilt computers and you can customize them online and have them shipped to you exactly how you want. For $5000 you could get a great PC with lots of extras. I'm sure there are cheaper methods, though.

Build your own. Go to newegg.com and you'll see the difference in prices. With $5,000 budget you can build a really nice computer

Alienware = bad

Try these sites out... if you have 5K and don't want to take the time to build one, you can get a screaming fast gaming machine:
Voodoo PC
Falcon Northwest Computer Systems

Gaming is the main purpose.

And to the above poster, " it screams" - what are the specs?

Just out of curiosity, why is building your own not an option? It only takes 20 - 30 minutes at most to put one together......

And also, why $5000?

A $2000 system can play all the latest games out there at high resolutions and great framerates. Going above $2000 starts giving you diminishing returns...

Wow, what a rip off.... I was able to piece your computer together using individual parts (i think in some cases, i choose better parts) for 3265.99 with tax and shipping. Which leaves you 1615.93 cents extra

Asus K8N-DL Dual Socket940/nForce4 - 274.00/ free shipping
Dual 250 opterons - 1338.00/free shipping
2gb corsair 1gb ddr400 ECC - 510.00/free shipping
Plextor PX-716SA sata cdrw/dvdr - 146.80/shipping included
3x Seagate 80gb w/8mb cache sata - 144.00/free shipping
NVIDIA Quadro FX540 - 317.95/6.56 shipping
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 - 105.00/ shipping included
Enermax - Noisetaker - (SLI) - 600W - 162.70/shipping included
Intel Pro/1000 MT PCI 10/100/1000Mbps - 35.00/free shipping
XP Pro - 89.99
Lian-Li Case - 135.99/includes shipping

All this came from pricewatch.com ....

forgot the cpu fan... screw it, throw in a coolermaster water cooler for 144.99 and you're still saving money. Cables I didnt really get into because they're cheap plus you're using sata so it shouldn't be a issue...

Anyways, I would an extra drive for raid. Your're about to spend close to 5 for a a computers thats not even worth 3500.00...
