Is it just me, or does this not seem possible?
I can cope with being able to poke millions of tiny holes, but having it be rewritable? I'm at a loss.

This explains it a lot better. It doesn't actually poke a hole, it makes a "dent" that can be read. By heating the whole film it "erases" the dents (melts back to a flat surface)."Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine
