Shared hosting with secured email and SSL Webmail

    Hi dear guys,

Could you recommend me a good and cheap hosting (I know that it is not actually possible to have good and cheap in the same time  ).

This is the list of features that I must get:

    1. Having secured email such as secured SMTP/POP3 and IMAP. It does not probably possible to install my own certs, but even shared certs would be fine.
    2. Having SSL SECURED Webmail on port 80 (or actually 443). Unfortunately, but I do not have too much open ports in my office, so all other ports that providers usually provide are not applicable for my case.

And some less important issues, such as:

    3. Having SSH access.
    4. Having probably typical set of Unix tools such as pine (or other console mail client), Lynx, etc
    5. Having dedicated IP address
    6. Having as much space as possible
    7. FTP, and all other stuff

The purpose of the hosting is to have secured email box with some limited web hosting (about 40-50 static pages) plus some ftp

    Thanks,
    BellevueIT

I would recommend using the Host Quote feature, at the top of the forums. There are plenty of web hosts on these forums, I'm sure someone would be able to accommodate your needs.

Best of luck with your search

You should give your price range as well, you might get better results this way.

I think you can easily get what you need in this price range.
Check out some providers, I believe most of them can provide you with your requirements.

In my opinion having email accounts over non secure connection is pretty risky, as your login information goes over the network in plain text.

I would go for maximum security

Most of the providers provide secured SMTP/POP3/IMAP. And even these are important; it is possible to get this set. The hardest part is to get Webmail on normal http/https ports. All other stuff just an addition to the major features.

As far as I know, there should be no problem getting webmail on https port.

    BellevueIT,

Have you considered installing your own webmail and purchasing your own ssl? You don't need root access to install webmail. As long as the mail server is secured, this should cover all of your requirements. I use dwmail and it can be configured to work securely. Add an ssl from ev1 and you're set.

Rotmax, when I communicated with couple providers, I figured out that they offer webmail on some strange ports like 2095, etc, that does not work to me. If you know some providers that offer webmail on ports 80/443, let me know.

Zoren, I have not actually thought about such way. So, you mention that on the regular shared hosting with apache on port 80, I can install my own "virtual folder" that can be accessible like http://www.myserver.com/webmail?

If this is correct, I may probably install my personal cert there. Could you be so kind to point me to dwmail, and ev1 CA? How much space do you need to deploy dwmail?

First off, check with your hosting provider to see if your account is ssl enabled. DW Mail can be found at www.dominion-web.com. A demo can be found at www.dwmail.net. You can skin it to look as you wish. You will want to see if your server meets the requirements of the application. It can be a trickey install, but its rock solid once you have it up and running. There are many free webmail apps but I don't know if they will provide a secure connection.

Ev1servers.net sells inexpensive ssl certificates. There may be cheaper certs available but I can't think of any. Again, make sure your account is ssl enabled and check if you can install the cert or if your host does.

    Good luck with your hosting.

Thanks for the information. It really looks good. I just curious how "weight" it is, meaning is it resource eater? memory, CPU?

cPanel uses port 2096 for secure webmail, so you shouldn't be looking for a cPanel host. I'm not sure if any common control panels support secured port 80/443 webmail, so it actually may be pretty difficult to find what you're looking for.

I haven't had any issues with memory or cpu load. Dwmail is quick, too. It slows down slightly over ssl, but hardly noticeable. They have a forum and quick sales replies if you need more info from them.
