Birts, no more pointy knives for you!

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/05...ives_can_kill/

The British Medical Journal has discovered something which may have escaped the attention of the less well-informed reader: that long pointy knives are sharp and can be stuck into people thereby causing them damage or even provoking a death-related incident.

The solution? Oblige long pointy knife manufacturers to make the knives less pointy by rounding off the tips.

Yes indeed, that's the conclusion of docs Emma Hern, Will Glazebrook and Mike Beckett of the West Middlesex University Hospital in London, according to a NY Times report. They note with concern that "the rate of violent crime in Britain rose nearly 18 per cent from 2003 to 2004, and that in the first two weeks of 2005, 15 killings and 16 nonfatal attacks involved stabbings".

Dr Hern says: "We came up with the idea and tossed it into the pot to get people talking about crime reduction." She adds: "Whether it's a sensible solution to this problem or not, I'm not sure."

No further comment from us is required, but suffice it to say we look forward to proposals for the rubber housebrick (a common bludgeoning weapon), the papier mache baseball bat (ditto) and the soft plastic claw hammer (ditto). ®
Heh, this just kind of makes me sad

The people behind the report in the BMJ have good intentions but this....eh plea, was never really taken too seriously from what i gather.

Just a bit of over nannying thought IMO.

That is just stupid, it's like taking guns off the streets, people who want to use them will.

They'll need all the spoons they can get, especially after the ban on forks.

In all honesty, you dont need sharp points on them.

Chefs claim that it will mean that some meat will be lost when cutting but i am sure that there will be more ways arround it. However yes it will take more time and they might put prices up on meals with meat. However i dont mind paying 50p extra a meal to help save many lives.

You honestly believe taking the point off the knife will save many lives?

If it saves 1 life, then it is worth it. It WILL save at least one life and so for me, that is worth it.

However for all we know, it might stop being used as a weapon because of this. This will only lead to another weapon, but at least knives will not be such a dnagerous threat to the British public.

I would bet you that removing the point on knifes would not save a single life. I bet if the speed limit was dropped to 5mph it would save a lot more lives.

    *edit*

Or even better yet, ban all alcohol as well

I bet you it wouldn't, because it would create more impatient people and cause people to speed more (according to the 5 MPH). That would cause more accidents

An accident at 5mph is not going to be fatal (unless you want to go into extreme situations), but in any even, lets get rid of cars all together

    Lol.

The rule is, that the loser must pay for one to be sent to the winnder in their country, so that it is edible. And you can change the toping (as i do not see the point in a bagel made from ham and cheese ) , but it must be of the save value.

Reply @ RefreshNet: They better be going 5 mph or all the extra police hired will be very upset with them, and whats to say people won't just make their knives have a point? In any even we could go on for hours about this, and it's probably best to just call it quits lol

Replay @ Bazza The Geek: We have a deal, i already marked it on my calendar.
