Host with no support (loads of questions)
Ok I bought the cheapest server I could of bought. It was a one off payment of like $10 (I only needed it for one file so I got it)
now, the only way I can access it is via ftp. And it has nothing installed on it. No cpanel or anything. I cant change my password and the place I got it from has shut down (they offered no support anyway)
I now use the server for fairly big movie files and its held up very well, so Ive continued abusing it and it still hasnt gone down, so really I have a great deal here
the trouble is leechers etc since I can only get to it via ftp, I must include my username and password in the links and people just go on my server and delete everything
I did use anti-leech for a good while but my forum members are put off cos of the spyware issues
my questions are
is there anyway I can install cpanel on it
is there away to visit it via http
can I add security to it so Im the only one who can add and delete stuff (not just changing the permissions cos users can change them back at the min)
or should I just scrap it and forget about it0

Or just install webmin/usermin for a free solution. There are others as well, just google it.
Is apache installed? If not, install it. Have you tried going to the default IP?
Can you create another ftp user with read only rights and use that to access the files?
However, you may want to just get a cpanel server somewhere else, I've seen them as low as $49.00 - $69.00/monthNeed Control Panel help? Tutorials, FAQS, user guides. and more
Don't have the control panel you use listed? Let us know.0

Yes, it's installed.... Check the httpd.conf for location of DocumentRoot, /var/www/html usually. That's where the default apache page is called from.

not sure how far you goign to get unless you have root account on the server to install these items. If you do you can install webmin it is free and can give you basic ocntrol to the server.

Do you have root access to the server?
Hell have you tried to SSH into the server at all?
"I bought the cheapest server I could of bought"
What do you mean by that statement? You did not "BUY A SERVER" for $10.00.
did you purchase an FTP account? Lease a server / rent a server / obtain a hosting account.
Please clear that up because without that information everyone is simply trying to guess what you actually have.0

Also
that IP is vhost01.startlogic.com
Is the company you paid startlogic? If so they have an 800 # you can call..
Perhaps it's a client that host's with Start Logic.. If so that might be this guy:
ankur.org
This is the personal homepage of Ankur Bulsara. There's not much right now, but I'll soon be adding some of my work - drum transcriptions, software, digital art, music, articles etc. I'll try to avoid making this yet another pointless site on the internet.
~Ankur Bulsara
Check it out for yourself..
http://vhost01.startlogic.com/oldindex.html
And following that I went to http://www.ankur.org/ which tells me he has moved to http://textdrive.com/0

Dedicated server for $10 per month? Are you sure you arn't mistaking it for a shared hosting account? Electricity costs more than that

Unless you have root shell access, this sounds like a badly administrated shared server
