Importing a .gz file via SSH
Is it possible to import a .gz file via SSH?
I was looking at a documentation and it said i have to upload the SQL file, but my sql file is HUGE. It'll probably take me 5 hours to upload, and knowing my luck it'll time out or something.
mysqldump -uuser -ppassword database | gzip > database.gz
I've done that and extract the file so the sql file is there. But it doesn't seem to be working, i recieved this error when i had to enter my password to begin the restore process
ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: [email protected]' (Using password: YES)
-jailshell: syntax error near unexpected token `('
Note: This is the first time i'm using SSH so i may have done something wrong. The program i'm using is Putty.
That means the username and password combination you used is incorrect.
Bare in mind that this should be your SQL username and password, not your SSH username and password.
gzip -d file.gz
mysql -u you -p databasename < file(without .gz)
(enter pass and hit enter)
(wait for a while)
(return to shell)
Or much quicker and less-interactive:
But the error you pasted...does the file have a '(' (or set of '()') in it? These are shell metacharacter that you'll have to escape.
gunzip -c file.gz | mysql -u user -p db
