I've been doing some thinking and I was considering adding a section on our website where our staff members would update a blog periodically. My idea behind this is, to let our prospects/current customers to know what we are working on(development wise), what our company is aiming towards and even a way for our customers to get to know us as PEOPLE a little bit more. I think there are way to many hosts out there without a face behind them and I'm just contemplating on some ways to get around that.
What do you guys think? Bad Idea, Good idea?
Another question. What do you think about adding staff profiles along with a picture. This would add more 'personable' feelings to your website, but might also scare some customers away if your an ugly nerd!
this has its advantage and it has its disadvantages. You should weigh out both of these. What is your target market? Will your taret market understand what you are talking about? It is not the most professional way of going about things, but I have seen it done before and it can be advantageous. The question is, what are you going to post in your blog, everything? If not, are you being honest? If so, do you want your customers to know the good the bad and the ugly? Its a tradeoff, not a bad idea at all, but something that you should think long and hard about before implementing.
I agree on it being a great idea. Corporate blogs done well have been shown by Jupiter Marketing Research to increase customer loyalty and decrease some support overhead. Gives customers a better sense of the people behind the company and they feel more connected.
An added advantage is that the search engines love blogs. They eat up the keyword rich text and frequent updates and you could find your search engine positioning climbing.
I've been toying with that idea as well for the company I work for. I was thinking that it may be a better plan to not directly link to it from the main parts of our site, but have it in my signature in our forums or something, so only the people that would really have an interest in that would be the ones viewing it.
I think it is a great thing to do. I do have a blog about my own small business and the number visitors to the site is not extremely large but still worth the efforts. Small business related blogs seem to attract quite a few people.
In your case you could share your own business success or failure stories so that clients can learn from it and see that you are a small business with personality.
