I've got a new dual processor Windows box with 2003 Web edition on it. The system was built with HT disabled in the bios, now its enabled but Windows only shows two processors (instead of four with SMP and Hyperthreading).
It's my understanding that if Windows doesn't detect the processors when being built they are not shown as HT. To see the processors i'm using Task Manager | Performace, which usually shows four graphs.
Can someone with a Win2k3 Web box with Dual Xeons confirm that you can see all four HT processors in Task Manager?
I have a feeling i'm going to have to fight my provider for a free OS reload to recognize the four HT processors.
and found that the Web Edition supports 2-way symmetric multiprocessing and the Standard Edition supports 4-way symmetric multiprocessing.
I am not entirely sure if the 2-way means 2 Virtual CPUs or it can support 4. If it means that it supports only 2 Virtual CPUs than your Dual Xeon would just have one CPU lying in dormant doing nothing. Maybe the turning off of the Hyperthreading would allow two physical CPUs to function.
