    Porn

    Hi all,

I just purchased vBulletin. I would like to find a fairly cheap web host that would let my members have the freedom to post pics of girls and extreme video clips.

Do you have any recommendations, I don't know where to start? (I'm a n00b)

    Porn

Freedom to post pics... ( They can only post pics where they have rights to do so, same goes for clips. Or your site gets shut down )

Find a host that'll allow adult hosting.

    Good Luck

You should be able to find some good hosting recommendations at the forum featured here: http://www.big-boards.com/highlight/485/ .

Check out their recommendation list. I've seen some hosts mentioned on that list. Make sure to run a searchover the host to find some reviews, or warnings prior to purchase.

These days, most do actually. Most hosts have slowly adapted to adult porn, and you can tell by reading the terms of services of different hosts.

It should be easy to find an adult hosting company. Try looking in the Shared Hosting and Reseller Accounts Offers forum. You may want to inquiry on the video clips however.

    Thanks for the replies!

I'm planning on making regular forums for everyone and adult forums for those who donate (say $5 a year).
I did a search for adult web hosting and they had different prices per month. What do web hosts mean by 'disk space' ?

The amount of space your account can be.

No, there is no such thing as unlimited space.

Disk space is the amount of storage a plan can hold.

What is your budget for your website and its important to read the terms of service of the website, because not every webhost allows pornographic material due to moral or ethnics. If your looking for a dedicated server I would recommend Server Matrix ( http://www.servermatrix.com) or EV1 Servers (http://www.ev1servers.net) for adult hosting. Its important you do research when looking for a good webhost and make sure people aren't upload what is considered "illegal pornography" otherwise you may be held liable and accountable for the actions.

porno hosting is very hard to come by, most hosts don't allow it because it gives them a bad rep.

You're welcome to send us your "possible" customers if you really feel that way. (joke)

As long as a web hosting company is responsible with their server load and the content is all legal. There is no true reason to close yourself out of any possible market and source of cash flow. But it is also a good idea to target each market a part and understand that they will each have their own needs.

An example of this would be to group things down.

    1.) Business
    2.) General (everyone else)
    3.) Adult

There are a number of hosts available that cater to adult content. You can do a search on WHT and would probably be best served by searching on some of the adult webmaster forums like weboverdrive, netpond, webmasterlinkup etc.

One issue to consider is the new 2257 law that just went into effect. If your pictures are hosted on US based webservers your content/pictures may be affected. If so, you'll need to have on hand verifiable documentation attesting to the legal age of those models/persons with pictures posted on your site. Just something to keep in mind....

I have an adult forum with at this time 1046 members and burning between 60 to 100 gig a month just to let you know. The account grows about 30 megs a week and the load usually doesnt spike over 1.5.
The 2257 rule is a major thing to worry about, if you are contacted to provide proof you either have to get the model to send you proof or delete the thread. I have yet to get contacted for such. Its good to have zero tolerance for unlicensed content, It usually results 1 warning then imediate ban for second offence. Dont get unplugged copyrighted material. You have to keep your rules strict but your members will get over them. Good luck with your forum venture. Adult forums grow fast.

Hmmm, I can only add that most hosts I've checked have a clause in their TOS about "nudity", "indecent content", or something similar; which they don't like you to have. There are others that do not have this clause, however.
I have sites with artistic nudity, and for those I have been careful to steer clear of hosts using abovementioned clauses.

Somehow I find that most illegal hosting is done in other countries - how is that those countries don't take any action ?

Because it's illegal in the United States, or Canada, or the UK doesn't mean it's illegal in all other countries.

Its mostly due to companies who do not care about the contents of the website, but only for the money that is involved in making it. I've seen most crack sites are hosted in Russia for example, because they are less likely to not montior the content as strictly for such places as US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.

Good point actually. Is the law really part of this?
It's legal to host porn sites, but many don't think it's ethically/morally right. Maybe other cultures have different ideas?

I'm not suggesting any answers, but it's an intresting point that anjanesh has raised, and the answer is, i don't think, straightforward.

I know a very popular forum that is specifically for discussing illegal s/w cracks etc - these links that are posted are at various places esp in non US countries but many in US too.
But surprisingly, most of all the US links have .edu extension with some ~username kind of folder or some pub, incoming etc etc. How come US univs let go of this so easily ?

It is legal to show porn with a few major "BUT'S" (no pun intended). First you must have legal rights to the pics you display. Just because The Tommy and Pam video is all over the web doesn't mean you can use it without getting in hot water.

Second - you must adhere to the 2257 laws which state that you have (or the image provider has) on file proof that the models are over 18. And you must get a license from the provider that clearly states who the holder of these records are and the physical address they are being held at.

If you are using private pics submitted by members of your site - you need a disclaimer stating that they are giving you permission to put their pics on your site and proof that they are over 18.

Am I a lawyer? No - I sell game control panels, but in another lifetime I worked for one of the largest on line adult companies teaching webbies how to build good porn sites and the legal issues involved were always a major issue.

    you're screwed.

vbulletin is a resource hog, you're looking at vps / dedicated once you get more than a few users. you're also looking at being sued every time a user posts a copyrighted pic, and being taken down by the feds because you can't provide 2257 info for any girl posted.
So far I have not needed to make 31 posts thanks to the search function.

VBulletin isn't a resource hog if you turn off certain features and I believe they have VB 2.5 or some earlier version that they currently patch that is less resource intensive?

I'm sure if you contact support with proof of being a licensee they will be able to provide you with a copy.
