Either the host you look for will do some major overselling or be using completely cheap equipment. Going for the cheapest will not necessarily secure you a good or reliable package.

As jsw said, cheap is not always good.

augustino you seem to be more concerned with the mail part of the account than the web hosting part? Will your account be used primarily for mail?

Hang around here for a while, and I'm quite sure you'll get quite a few hosts that meet your needs (just read the signatures).

Yes, this is true, the space, I will use for email, dont matter to me the quality because the email servers retry many times if the server is down

You are right in that case. Just about any host would be good enough for email. But I hope they wouldn't mind the gigabytes of email landing on their servers

You're looking for primarily email service, yet don't need domain hosting?

Look for broadcast email services that allow you to use their SMTP servers.

Stay away from Canaca.com, there's plenty of negative history with them here.... and if the Canaca.com rep here wants to dispute that, I can try to dig up a ticket that proves that it took two months to even acknowledge an issue that ultimately cost you a good customer.

That I don't know, but I believe the cheapest host I've seen was offering unlimited everything for $1 per month.

Based on that I believe I can safely assume that the cheapest host around will not actually provide what it promises.

    www.ace-host.net

Try searching through a few directories, and such to find such cheap web hosting requirements.

There are still quite a few budget hosts around who do provide quality - or at least a respectable amount (99%).

Not saying any of the previous ones mentioned are - but just stay away from anything 'unlimited' and anything that started within the past few months and you should be fine.

And just a note to the OP: Even budget hosts may not want you spamming on their servers if that is the case!

I'm using my provider mostly for mail, too. I have 10GB monthly for 10$ a year.

The lowest package I can find on their site is 5.95 a month, where do you have the 10 a year?

Er - link to it perhaps.

I heard a lot more negative things about them than positives. But they may be good for a small, regular site. On the other hand, almost any reputable host is good for that.

    This is a Canaca.com representative:

    This is a Canaca.com representative:

Some one stated that we either use cheap equipment or that we are overselling.

As far as I can remember we have never used low end servers. We do have servers that have been online for over 5 years, but at the time they were near top of their field.

We have started to retire some of our older virtual servers with new Dual Dual core opteron’s 275

    System configuration below:

    Dual Dual core opteron’s 275 (4 Real Core’s)
    8 300GB Sata drives ( Raid 5 with 2.1 terabytes available)
16GB of ECC Registered Memory ( Some of these new servers still have 8GB)
    SATA 3Gb/s RAID Controller SuperTrak® EX8350
    3 redundant power supplies in a 3 u case

These are just some of the highlights of our new systems. They are costing us an average of $11,000.00 per server.

As for overselling, this can be debated for another 50 pages. I will just say that we have never suspended an account for using their allocated space or bandwidth.
