i see many web host now offers free MS SQL database hosting using MSDE
But can some one list its pros and cons here
As per me i know following
MSDE is intended for single user or small workgroup environments. The following are some of the MSDE limitations in comparison with SQL Server:
* No Enterprise Manager
* No Query Analyzer
* No Index Tuning Wizard
* Only 2GB RAM
* Only 2GB database size limit
* Only 2 CPUs
* Only five concurrent batch workloads or 25 concurrent connections for websites
* No Database Server Failover Support
* No Full-text search
* No SQL Server Profiler
* No Import and Export Wizards
* No OLAP
* No English Query
* No SQL Books Online
* No Full or Bulk-Logged recovery model support (only simple)
Does any one let me know 25 concurrent connection is sufficient?
Most of what you listed should not be a problem on a host server. The hardware limits are about what a host server would have anyway. The tools that are listed as missing are not a problem because you can use your own local SQL Server tools to do the work as needed.
The no full text search could be a problem if you expect alot of searching.
25 connections on a web site should be fine unless of course you have a huge amount of database lookups at the same time like a forum or shopping web site.
I have to disagree with Mark. There is huge differences and liabilities involved.
MSDE is the free version of MS SQL Server, and is quite stripped down. It was not intended for multi domain server use. Only 25 concurrent connections? I hope there are not too many clients on that server, or you will be getting a lot of database connection errors.
I do agree with the tools argument to a point. However, not all clients, or perhaps even most, will have mostr of these utilities available to them on thier PC's.
Just my 2 cents worth.

25 concurrent would mean long queries or too much data retrieved. If 200 people were looking at your data maybe 20 at one time will click enter to cause a sql statement to get more data.
Impact of full text search. Slower to search text data.
Access database will not get you much more in concurrent connections but anything over 1 gig of data is usually a headache in Access. Not reliable for moderate to heavy use.
MSDE is a great way to start, if your site is popular an upgrade to full MS SQL Server is all that is needed - just backup and restore database on a full SQL Server. Also, Access sql has some variations that make the upgrade to full SQL Server a bit harder on the code side.
Best bet is to test on MSDE and use full SQL Server for a production web site that you think will have that many queries at the same time.
