Airport X-ray might show a bit too much

These new X-Ray machines, can see right through your clothes, but not body... Would you feel violated walking through one of these just to get on a plane? Or do you feel its justified, because you get to walk off the plane alive?

I think security is going a bit overboard here with it....

Criminal or not, we are all treated like one. Just wait till the screeners figure out how to record all the images onto an ipod, a new breed of porn will be created for the masses to see.

Im tired of this stupid crap. Everything in this country is so crazy. We get tickets for most everything we do now. You have stupid laws there to protect your life and give the government money like the seatbelt laws which are stupid becuase people shouldnt be told they cant take their lives into their hands if they wish to.

ex-bhost.. you do realize that the seatbelt law is because some people are too stupid to wear a seatbelt, so this way it forces them to?

Its not only that, but you can kill other people if you don't wear a seatbelt, funnily enough a 70Kg Mass travelling at 50MPH is quite hazardous to other people. Especially people who're in the back seat.

I understand all that but I also fell it shouldn't be something that you get fined nicely for. That is where I get agrivated. With all the stupid fines. I mean figure out some other way to deal with them not fine them alot of money.

It's just an x-ray machine. I don't see what the fuss is about myself. Better they keep the weapons off the planes in my opinion.

Agreed. If it increases security, I'm all for it.

Haha wait till your wife's xray is posted on the net at some "xraypr0n.com" site come back and tell us how you really feel Yeah I know the chances of that are slim and none.

Wait till 30 years from now they find that these xrays cause cancer and you have a bajillion people suing the government over cancer that may have been caused by these Xrays that'd be bad too.

This doesn't really bother me either.

I've had nearly every part of my body grabbed, squeezed and poked by doctors for one reason or another. While it made me feel a little uncomfortable, it was done professionally and I recognized the benefit to my health was worth it.

You won't have to wait long, either. There have been plenty of documented cases of sexual abuse by TSA screeners on women, men, children, and everything in between. These things happen especially at airports like Boston-Logan (BOS) and other airports where screeners conduct either private or public wandings, at the person being wanded's discretion.

I do not doubt for a second that, if this continues, things like what you mentioned will pop up all over, and will be documented even further. Eventually, the TSA will realize that there is no definite way to ensure total and absolute security for all and, at the same time, maintain a decent level of privacy for the civilian population who may not want screeners to see those parts of their body that they cover up for a reason.

The argument and assumption that "they're doing this for my benefit, so it's all good" is a dangerous and incorrect one. The idea that they will do everything perfectly, won't abuse the system, and will catch thousands of terrorists in the process is laughable in its absurdity. TSA screeners are people too, and just like "normal" members of society, some of them deviate from their job description and have looser morals and standards than do most. Thus, some of them, in positions of high authority over just about anyone who walks through security at the airports, will abuse their authority.

I hope you were being sarcastic; this exact way of thinking is dangerous beyond words.

Of course we have all had our bodies inspected by (usually) professional doctors in the course of doing their job. But how is it the TSA screeners' jobs to inspect bodies and cavities of people with whom they have no direct relationship or knowledge? Sure, you might say it is part of their job, since they are supposedly "increasing security." But where should we draw the line between security and liberty? How can we be expected to trust a TSA screener earning minimum wage even 25% as much as we trust doctors, whose sole job it is to inspect bodies and diagnose problems, with the direct consent of and payment by their patients?

I'm all for it to, would feel safer knowing that everyone has been strip searched! (virtually)

I dunno about you people, but honestly if someone brought a weapon onto a plane...do you honestly think people would just sit there? Not after what happened, that man would be taken to the ground pretty quick reguardless of what weapon he may have.

The fact is, I dont think I need some screener taking pictures of me essentially naked. I am not a criminal, I have no criminal past, not even a ticket.. I do not think I should be treated as one. Why am I treated as a criminal everywhere I go? So I am protected and safe? Give me freedom over security anyday...any day...

News flash, almost every digital camera has the ability to "see through" clothes in the infrared mode. There are pervs that do that at the beach.

I think this is a bit of a stretch by the ACLU guy. It's not like it's the man with the Xray eyes where the person looks nude.

First of all, it's not naked. I don't mind if it helps with the security, which it surely does. I don't understand how people can deny that.
