    Anyone want to review my (first) resume?

    If you have a spare moment, could you please take a look at my resume located at

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am applying for an internship at a large hosting company for a summer job.

    This is my first resume I have written so tear it apart with criticism I've been told contradictory things in regards to the amount of details provided for the extra curricular activities. So I left it all in for now...its hard coming from applying to colleges where they want you to go into depth about everything to writing resumes

    CLKeenan.. good start... but I must admit, this is just about the longest resume I have ever seen.

    You need to pretend you are an editor, and cut this down to 1 - 2 pages.. at the most. Your resume is over 6 pages long!

    You should break down the information into what type of job you exactly want. You have to majorly edit your resume to show interest in a job you want.

    You don't have to give experience of working as a cashier, if you are trying to get hired as an office admin, or a network specialist. Your resume has to been specific to what you want.

    Your resume should be around one page, at the most two.

    Most companies don't really care if you took chemistry.

    Your resume you have now is what you would send to a college for application.

    All you should have in your resume for this internship is your:
    Objective: 2-3 sentences about what you want to do.
    Education: Just the name of the school you went to, maybe what you majored in if you went to college.
    Skills: Applications/software, programming languages, etc (not "easy to work with").
    Clients/jobs - Who, What, Link.

    And that's about it.
    Haven't been on WHT for 6 years!

    Put you contact info at the top as well as a sort of introduction.

    Then cut out about 4-5 pages of it! You don't need to put in almost a whole page of everything you ever did when playing soccer. Just cut it down to a line saying "I played soccer and held various positions etc".

    Yep.. I think most of everyone on here is agreeing.. its way to long. Vortex-Steve makes a very good point, put your contact on top.. good eye.

    To be honest CLKeenan a resume really isn't the most imporant tool to get hired. I've looked at thousands of resumes for various positions.. and I usually get sold when I actually talk to the person. Not to say its not important, but its not the most important part.

    I've hired people who had HORRIBLE resumes, and i've not hired people with perfect resumes. Its just a tool to "help you get to the door".. not actually open it

    Two words: too long. This is a life story, not a resume; no one cares what you took in high school. They only care about what is relevant to hiring you. You can tell them your other accomplishments with hopes of flattering them when you're interviewed, *not* in your resume. Your resume should contain your previous relevant work experience, education (but not each individual class!), and a couple sentences describing what your intention is. Save this "resume" for college; delete about 4 pages of it for the job.

    Also, it is considered professional if you write a cover letter to go along with your resume.
    Haven't been on WHT for 6 years!

    The main thing to always remember is: K-I-S-S

    Keep It Simple Stupid

    Many of us know that you could write forever in a resume, always thinking 'this will help', 'oh and I'll add this bit just incase'. Although, you must always remember to K-I-S-S.

    To Whom It May Concern:

    I am writing to you to show my strong interest in working as a Junior Web Design intern at Hostway. I believe that I would be the perfect candidate for the job due to my related experience and accomplishments in this field.

    Over the last six years, web design and development has grown from a part time hobby to a full time job. I have completed numerous web sites and development projects for both commercial and non-profit organizations. My most significant achievement has been the creation of my own website, Course-Notes.Org. This site was originally intended for US History students at my high school. However, it has grown to be a nationally recognized US History resource website. While it is primarily known for its US History content, as of March 2005, its content has been expanded to four new courses; European History, Psychology, US Government and Politics, and Economics. This website has also been the winner of multiple competitions, one of them being Hostway’s own, “Web Developers of the Future” contest. By winning the contest, the site has received a lot of publicity through the numerous in print and online articles written about the contest’s winners. I have also gained many opportunities to increase my knowledge of this career field, such as job shadowing Drew Mitchell for a day which enabled me to sit in on the daily meetings. Aside from my work on Course-Notes.Org, I have also completed many other web design and development projects for my school that are currently being used to increase productivity and efficiency. One example of this is my work for the school’s Writing Center. I have created an online appointment manager that allows students to create an appointment by filling out a form with a variety of fields to help tutors gain insight into what the student's goals are. The tutors are able to view appointments that are created through an administration panel. When a tutoring session is complete, the tutor can archive the appointment for future reference.

    In addition to my computer skills, I have also held leadership roles as captain of both the High School Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer teams and an active participant of the student council my freshmen and sophomore year. This has given me the opportunity to improve my ability to communicate with classmates both on and off the field. I believe that this is vital to being able to succeed in the workplace.

    In reviewing the job description and objectives, I believe that my work experience, attitude, academic credentials and interpersonal skills make me a strong candidate. I have spent the last six years developing my skills as a web designer and developer. I cannot stress enough how enjoyable and challenging my experience has been and would like to bring my enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge to Hostway.

    My broad experience and dedicated pursuit towards my goals makes me confident that I would be a valuable summer intern at Hostway. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you.

    I think that looks nice, I would want to hire you! I'm no expert on resumes, I try to always be self-employed, but I think that it is very good.

    Went for the interview yesterday, I think it went really well. They emailed me today saying that they forgot to ask when I would start/end so that cant be a bad thing

    I got the job

    $10/hour
    35 hours a week

    I start in a little over a week - they have to set up my computer, phone line, etc
