OrangeFiber.com - review
Hi,
I have used OrangeFiber for 1 month and 3 days ago.
The first day, my server down several time, it's not good !
And until today, everyday I must create some ticket to reboot my server because it was down too much. After reboot, my server back online a few minutes ( some time a few hours) and down again. I could counted it at least 4 time/day .
Here is my IP, you can ping it : 66.28.203.236
My server is P4 2.8 with 1 GB Ram
Is there any body used OrangeFiber ? Have you get the problem like me ?
Ah, I will post a file test download speed after my server back up

It sounds like faulty hardware. I'd suggest you/your provider find what hardware (sounds like RAM) is causing the problem, and replace it. Doesn't appear to be server4sale or orangefiber's fault though.

Customer service is being there when they need you. So he asks for 4 reboots in a day and I'm sure he was explaining his frustrations, but he is still upset enough to come here and complain. Sounds like bad customer service to me.
The equivilent to a retail store "*smile on your face*, how can I help you?" is ATLEAST an email offering to check the RAM and I can almost guarantee his reboot tickets looked something like this:
I need a reboot for the 4th time, what is going on?? I'm getting really upset!

Ofcourse it can be faulthy hardware, but it can also be bad maintained OS or some scripts going berzerk on the server. There are more things that causes servers to go down a lot and hardware is not the one to first pop up in my mind!

I have to agree with kernelpanic, this has nothing to do with it being Cogent bandwidth and more to do with OF overselling it too much.

The rate they're going the outgoing lines are going to be maxed out all the time pretty soon instead of just most of the day like they are now.

I still think that OF is a great deal for the price you get. Of course they're not going to have a datacenter comprable to Savvis, ThePlanet, or NYI, but for what you pay its a great deal.
Now if they could only get those abovenet routes lit, then things would improve quite a bit overnight.

I am just curious as to why you think they are a good value?
I know they are a good value for what you get if you could use the bandwidth.
I am not looking for 100mbit for 700 thats not why I went there.
I like the reseller's fully managed support team and if I could use even 60% of what I am paying for I would be happy.
There are other providers that come to mind: SM HiVelocity Steadfast Networks that offer what I am looking for for less money or the same money and they say I can actually get more then the 20-30mbit I am getting from OF.
I am very happy with the level of service S4S and OF has provided me on the tech side.
However the bandwidth is a huge issue for me.
I am averaging only 150gb transfer per day which means my site traffic is going to come out to be about 5-6TB which is 20mbit average.
Last month before I moved to OF I did 14TB of transfer.
Thats a huge problem for me and the site traffic(number of visitors, downloads started) is the same as last month if not a little bit higher. But a lot of people are canceling the downloads before they finish because of the speed issues.
I agree if they can get these other lines lit that would be a good thing, but as a business I can't take a 50% bandwidth cut and maintain the same services.
Again this is not a complaint just factual information.
It also makes me worried that I see JHosts selling 50mbit services for about half what I am paying for my 100mbit. I know those folks are going to be in the same situation I am in, not getting the full 50mbit. I know that I should just drop my server to the 20mbit on average billing because I never get above that anyway but it reduces the amount of cash flow for OF to expand.
It just concerns me that servers are still selling at high commit levels and are becoming as oversold if not more then FDC used to be.
I have a couple weeks left on my services and I really don't want to have to move 60+gb of data again, but I might have to.
I mean for 700 per month I think I can get 50mbit from SM.
Atleast there I am much more likely to get that full 50mbit from them, granted they have had issues in the past.
Steadfast has a great offer right now too, that would give me 50mbit for less then my 100mbit and I could atleast push that.
If anyone at OF is reading this please don't think I am trying to bring your company down because I think if you are able to fix this major oversaturation problem you can do very well.
