What's your opinion about the google pagerank & hosting? When I visit a site I look often to the pagerank to see if it's a "popular" site or not. Do you use the pagerank to chose hosting? Do you think it's a factor?

High Pagerank means nothing when it comes to choosing hosting. In fact PageRank is so heavily and easily skewed nowadays (through link enchanges, links purchases etc) that a high Pagerank rarely measures accurately the true popularity and even more rarely the usefulness of a site. All I stated is just my opinion though.
I agree that I wouldn't like a PR0 either, but I would take a deeper approach to my research than just that. Depending on one's marketing techniques (zero interest in SEO), a PR0 is not that hard to maintain.
Then again we have the PR1, PR2, and even PR3, which can still be a sign of a relatively new company.
Also, a new company is as risky as the person(s) behind it. Take the ex owner of a succesful hosting company, do you think he has reasonable chances to create another success? I believe he does, at least more so than someone who did not create a success before.
When choosing a host I rarely look at PR. Every host can have a great PR for different reasons. Each serve a specific niche. For example, a budget hosting provider may have an excellent PR because it is very popular, but that does not mean this type of provider is best for you.
