    Providers who allow adult materials.

Due to ambiguities in one of my current provider's AUP, I am potentially looking for new hosts who may better serve my needs.

I am looking for a reputable datacenter offering unmanaged dedicated servers whose acceptable use policy clearly allows LEGAL adult materials that fully comply with USC 2257 to be hosted in said datacenter.

Since I am a reseller of space to other webmasters, it is important to me that the AUP my server is governed by not be in conflict with the business aims of my clients.

The server will need to be at least not celeron, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, backup HD, 1000GB transfer (Savvis or XO preferred), and come with linux/cpanel.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? The current bill of the server in question is $148/mo. (P4 3.06, 1GB RAM, 80GB/40GB HD, 1000 GB transfer, CentOS/cPanel)

If you do a search for 'adult hosting' on WHT, you'll find a few recomendations. If you're into research, I would suggest visiting some of the adult webmaster forums where you'll find many more recos as well as reviews of adult hosts.

I tried an identical request at GFY, but it became a circlejerk of providers trying to sell me on managed/premium services, all the while upping the cost with hidden fees. I'm a reseller who happens to be an experienced sysadmin; I'm not a webmaster looking for a turnkey business. The server is not only for adult materials, but other clients too.

The results offered by a search are somewhat dated - for me, the main selling factor is price, provided the company is not some fly by night operation.

Agree...search results are limited in WHT, thus the suggestion of looking into the forums. Perhaps looking for providers who meet your price requirement, and then finding out their policy on adult content would be the best route?

I know FDC allows adult content but I'm not sure how their support or network is this week.

Most of the larger providers will allow adult content. You mentioned what you are paying now, how much do you want are you willing to pay? I seem to note a lot of the smaller providers dont do adult for various reasons. TP EV1 just off the top of my head I know host adult stuff. Im sure others do as well.

    SMachiz,

I've been suprised to note quite a few hosts/resellers/whatever in here say they wont allow adult content. Im working on the restrict meaning "I wont host this" as opposed to "this isnt legal here" mind you.

for $169 i think you can get a sagonet box for nice, and as far as i know (and i hope anyways, one of my customers has like a gig of porn stashed on my xeon) adult content is not a issue.

It won't be as powerful as a box, only 2.8Ghz, but it'll have a faster bus, since that 3.06 will be a 533, not 800Mhz.

You'll get way more space and BW though, which is nice

Quite a few, actually. The general attitude is "we don't want to deal with it" either from a legality standpoint (adult sites cause more abuse complaints) or from a network standpoint (adult sites are much more likely to attract DDoSes).

And since a lot of companies are offering premium bandwidth on premium hardware in a premium datacenter, there really isn't much sense in hosting adult material there anyway, so they prohibit it.

Not one single provider offering celerons on unmetered cogent lines has banned adult materials, and for good reason.

Its just part of a market niche for some, while an annoyance for others.....its not really about the morality of it all.

most of th4e bigger data centers I know of allow legal adult - why dont you look at their fixed orbit and find the ones that have the networks you are looking for and then contact them and ask them specifically about their adult policy and then you can check their pricing.

We provide that, I believe, as long as no laws are broken in the US or ToS, it is allowed on our network.

I have no idea about much else about it, I am just a programmer, heh.

your asn must not be announced. you are probably single homed to cogent. if they are not announcing it - you will be left out. is this the case?

11297 is not my AS and no, I am not getting my connection via AS 11297, do an AS trace route and you will see that MY as is the final hop which is 33642.... Yes, we are currently single homed, but will be adding more shortly..

that is why you dont show up in fixed orbit. your provide is not bgp advertising your blocks with your as. so I guess fixed orbit is correct.

Well, supposedly they are, and if you do an as trace, say from oregon-ix.net or level 3 looking glass or anywhere else, you'll see that my AS number is the termination point for my ips.. Of course, fixed orbit doesn't see my IPs either..

ThePlanet allow adult content...as do alphared.com....infact they're primarily an adult host, but I can't remember the domain name offhand.
