will be using all the bandwidth
Hi
I'm looking to get this server with
• Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz or better
• 2 x 80GB IDE Hard Drive at least
• 1024MB RAM
• Bandwidth: 1000GB
Windows and MSDE
Now my question is that I don't know what is the standard policy regarding the bandwidth usage, I plan on using it all monthly, as my business will do a lot of remote video storage - will fill up the harddrives monthly, coming from a very limited number of users.
I also narrowed it down to layeredtech, based on WHT opinions .. and the price, since I won't go more than 150 a month
Thanks for reading,
Lucian

usually if you go over your alloted bandwidth quota you are charged extra for the additional bandwidth you use- in the case of layeredtech it is $0.50 a GB overage so if you went over by 10GB bandwidth you would be charged an extra $5 that month
hope this helps

yea,
generally either,
1) ur server get suspended and you will not be overcharged (then they may give u option to be charged or suspended till end of month. they may offer u bw upgrade like 1000GB more for some better price)
2) u'll get charged automatically
ask their support
for $150 something u may actually be able to get 10mbit unmetered --however not of the best quality-- unmetered mean u can transfer 10mbit per sec at anytime but if theres many ppl on site at one time their download speeds will drop -- on the good hand -- you cannot go over ur bandwidth limit.

Slightly change in the things I look for..
The provider of the server should be somewhere on East coast, preferably in NY. The reason is I need the minimum nb of hops from Toronto, i.e. minimum latency
Now having that said, I'm looking toward crnc and voxrox.
So far I got a pretty good email thread with crnc, I like their offer and judging by the numerous good feedbacks they are a serious and well reviewed.
I also asked for a quote from voxrox, yesterday, waiting for their reply so far.
Again, my little startup business is going to be constant upload over the 9-5 workdays, so the inbound-outbound traffic/speed are going to be both important and constant.
I also hope that this won't break any TOS or other policy, as far as I checked with the sales reps, it should be ok.

Actually from toronto you might want to look at some hosts in the Chicago area as well since there are alot of Chicago to Canda links.

Based an the speed of connection to Montreal from Toronto and on other facts, I've chosen to go with iWeb.
I'll be back with a review in three month

Here I am, back with some good references. It's been more than three month, indeed, but I guess the longer the better.
I'm very happy with iWeb, they've been fast and professional to answer my questions, special thanks to Yves!
All in all the time passed by, lots of custom development done, but as far as I can say, the dedicated server I got from iWeb is a good choice.
Will gladly recommend them to my friends as well.
Cheers,
Lucian
