    SBS 2003 Passwords

Is it possible to look up a users password from windows small business server 2003? I have administrator access and want to find out a password from a few of the other users yet so far no luck.

    Cheers

    Matt

No, you can not view other users Windows passwords.

    Well, yes and no.

You can't "just" view passwords (thankfully!).

You can, however, use LC5 to do dictionary and brute force password cracks, especially if you have admin. access.

Not quite the same as just "finding out" other users' passwords though, but point taken

Having said that, if you implement a secure password policy - minimum length, upper/lower case, numbers etc, dictionary and brute force cracks are unlikely to succeed. Plus if you implement an account lockout on unsuccessful logins, that would bring that line of attack to a close very quickly.
