    Reverse DNS

    Hi,

Wondering if someone can shed some light on this problem, I can't understand what's going wrong here.

    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=82.163.169.100

I have been delegated a DNS zone, and have then further delegated it to our internal domain controller, lookups to our (rdns.razorblue.com) work for other domains, but the delegation part wont.

DNSstuff shows it as working, but a standard rDNS lookup fails, any idea why?

    Thanks,

    Dan

rdns.razorblue.com appears to be authoritative for the IP in question:

    [email protected]# dig ns 100.169.163.82.in-addr.arpa

    ; <<>> DiG 9.3.0 <<>> ns 100.169.163.82.in-addr.arpa
    ;; global options: printcmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 15609
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;100.169.163.82.in-addr.arpa. IN NS

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    100.169.163.82.in-addr.arpa. 86372 IN NS rdns.razorblue.com.

Perhaps you could post a copy of the zone up somewhere (where the line spacing can be properly read rather than just pasting here).

    Code:
    C:\>nslookup
    Default Server: server.xxxxxxxx.co.uk
    Address: 10.0.0.1

    > 82.163.169.100
    Server: server.xxxxxxxx.co.uk
    Address: 10.0.0.1

Ahh could be why I couldn't find it ...

Basically we're sent the rDNS directly to rdns.razorblue.com, I then tried to delegate it further with:

    169.163.82.in-addr.arpa. IN NS rbdc01.dur.uk.razorblue.com.

DNSstuff can see it, but why isn't it working normally?

    Dan
