Those deals are often a hundred or more dollars below Dell's margin, especially if you stack a coupon on it.
Right now I'm trying to decide where I want to go with new web servers, either low end SC1425's (if I'm happy with their config at $1k or less), or low-midrange 1850's around $2k, or Blades (only if they release their low power version, and price is under a comparable 1850 by -$300).
What I need is a 30% off deal for their rebranded EMC Fibre or iSCSI san.
There's no reason you can't put a 15K SCSI Drive into the sc1425, but then you're adding another $150 in cost since you need to add a SCSI Controller Card, plus the $200+ to add a 15k drive instead of a 80GB IDE Drive. At that point you may as well be building a PE1850 with SCSI drives or raid.
