no permission as root !?
i,m getting emails from the server about an error in the log files , when i login as root and try to chmod it or try a fix it says Operation not permitted
i checked my kernel security level and its set to -1 and i did reboot after setting this , and my fstab is default

the error email shows that :
newsyslog: can't chmod /var/log/auth.log.1: No such file or directory
newsyslog: can't mv /var/log/auth.log.zVquc2C to /var/log/auth.log: Operation not permitted
did anyone come across this before ?
i,m running on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE-p5
Perhaps a process is reading/has the log open for editing.

cant delete a file
umm no i think i found what the problem is
i cant delete a file that i own !
as root i created a file
then tryed to delete it i got an error
rm: test: Operation not permitted
ls -la test
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 May 9 22:36 test
this is very strange !
this happens only in the /var directory
i,m having these permissions on /var
drwxr-xr-x 24 root wheel 512 May 6 19:45 var
problem fixed :)
found the problem
it was not the noexec flag , the directory /var/log/ was marked as sappnd
found this by typing :
ls -lo /var/log
drwxr-x--- 4 root wheel sappnd 46080 May 12 13:00 log
i simply un sappnd it by chflags nosappnd /var/log/
now i can delete files normaly
