moving a ssl certificate site onto dedicated box on its own ip help please
i have a dedidcated box with a few sites on it
i have another ip for this site with the ssl certificate
can i transfer the certiicate from the hosting company
that i want to get rid of?
also how do i set up the virtual hosting for this domain with the other ip?
As long as you are moving to the same platform you should not have a problem.
At your old host copy the .key and .crt files for the certificate off the server, save them as text files. If you are using a chained certificate also copy over the CA bundle.
Setup the domain on the new server with a dedicated IP address then install as a new certificate following the instructions for the server as normal. Use the .key file where you need the key and use the .crt file information where you need to enter the certificate information.
The certificate should move over with you no problem, if you are using a control panel to do the install (ie. WHM) make sure that the domain name and IP address are correct before you click on the do it button. WHM can sometimes retrieve the old IP address by mistake.
