Can spamd really be taking up all the memory?

I have 2 gigs of memory but it seems that at any one time, only a few hundred megs are free. What gives?

    Thanks.

Seems like your cache + buffers are around 1.8GB. This is normal.

Really, if you had 2GB ram and 1GB free, then what is that extra 1GB doing there? Ram is supposed to be filled with something. In your case, its a pretty big disk cache, which is good.

All modern operating systems use memory thats not used by applications for other things, like speeding up disk access, indexing stuff etc. Youre not suppoesd to have a lot of true free memory, thats just a waste.
