    UML vs. Virtuozzo

    Hello,

So, my VPS provider just offered me a possible switch between UML to Virtuozzo. I'll loose all of my data, but I dont really care about that. This is a beta VPS anyways.

I'm looking for opinions on why not to choose Virtuozzo? Did they fix the IPTables and Quota problems yet? Any reasons for them?

I have read other threads regarding these same types of issues, but do not feel that they are current enough to give me correct information to determine this

    Thanks

Yes, I'm sorry if I had slanted it to make it look like I was only against it

I would appriciate reasons for both sides

Having used both I'm a much bigger fan of Virtuozzo. And yes, in vz 2.6.1 iptables and quotas work fine.

Virtuozzo for sure. I wasn't aware of any iptables bugs, I did know of the limitations though. VZ 2.6.1 does allow for state tables, etc.

As for quotas, those have been working for some time.

Thank you both for your input

Anyone else have additional comments? Any end users or providers?

I'm certain some other people in this forum must have had experience with both. After all, this is WHT

    OK From the peofessional standpoint...

UML is good in that is offers a lot more kernel level functionatlity that Virtuozzo does in terms of things like IPTables, Ability to Addon Modules as well as things like remote console access. Also you can run any Linux distro you want under it with a little tweaking

Virtuozzo on the other is a commerical product, so you could say that its better there. Also the way is implement it does get better performance and the Power Panel is good for end users.

As for switching and losing your data I'm sure the provider should be able to setup a second VPS to let you move all your stuff over ..

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback.

I have choosen to make the switch to Virtuozzo. They offered to keep my other VPS up for a few days so I could copy files over. I'm guessing if there is something horrible about Virtuozzo with cPanel, I can switch back
