On Wordpress...
I'm currently testing out Wordpress for my film review site as we try to transition it from film reviews to articles about anything under the sun.
Have any of you had any experience messing aroung with the templates? What's teh best way to go about editing them.
So far I've just edited the images. It looks fine, but should I want to do something later I would like to know what I'm infor.

Best thing to do is look through their codex. It has everything you need to know and more.
There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

Re: On Wordpress...
I use a PHP editor to edit WordPress templates, specifically PHPEclipse. Aside from the calls to WordPress (things like <?php get_calendar(); ?>) the rest of the template is just an HTML page, so making changes at a later date is just like it was for you before, except you only need to make the change in one template file instead of on each page.
