I need to know: what is the line to use so that it restores directly from the backup_dmp.gz file? if thats at all possible. I dont want to leave big uncompressed files behind, because my database is 225MB, so seven dmp files would take up much of my shared hosting space.
I dont code or know unix, I just got the above command lines through kind helping posters. But I searched everywhere and didnt find this one..
Works fine here. gunzip accepts a file as it's input parameter, and the -c flag directs it's output to standard out. That is then piped to mysql which will execute whatever it recieves on standard in. If you prefer using redirection:
I don't like using passwords directly on the command line, it's very insecure. -p will prompt you for the password when you run the command. If you're trying to script this or something, use '--password=foo' instead.
