    Good host for personal reseller

I started using reseller accounts out of a need to group together my domains. Now I only have 1 domain but I still need a reseller out of habit. I have a feeling I might buy a new domain soon..

Anyway, which web hosts are good for a small reseller account?

Its just my personal use. Currently I use about 250MB, and about 5GB monthly. I would like space to grow, probably 400MB space, and about 7-10GB just to be on the safe side..

Please recommend me a few hosts who can give me a custom package, not a big reseller account I'm not going to use... The searches led me to many web hosts offering mostly 2GB space..

    Thanks!

I'm search your search brought up many to choose from, just stay away from any UNLIMITED space/bandwidth offers.

You could also purchase a shared hosting plan that allows for addon/parked domains.

Based on your requirements, I agree with jmweb. There are many providers that offer great shared hosting accounts with multiple domain capability or minimal fees for additional domains.

I know, but I like the control by using a reseller account. A shared hosting account won't let me give FTP access to a hostee on an addon domain.

Another question, would a webhost give a custom quote even tho they don't say it on the site?

Many hosts will work with you and yes, give a custom quote. My personal favorite is Bliksem. I've used them for some time and have been quite pleased with the uptime and customer service.

Use the "search" feature here and talk to a few hosts. You're bound to find something that works well for you.

    Best of luck!

    Hi lisadragon,

It most certainly will - you just need to choose a control panel that actually supports true multiple domain hosting vs a control panel with add-on domain functionality - there are very distinctive differences and this is one of them

Yes, most hosts will do up a custom quote for you - though there are also alot who shy away from this sort of thing - you never know until you ask

Ah. So which cpanel does support true multiple hosting? I know cpanel doesn't. It treats it as addon domain only and any subdomain would only become a folder, and can't be assigned ftp access. (This has been a frustrating issue for me.. thus the rant, lol)

LOL - had to read that a couple of times - too many uses of cpanel

Well - a CP like H-SPhere creates a folder in your web space root for each domain and subdomain..

ex) When you log in via ftp you will see the following:

    domainA.com
    sub1.domainA.com
    domainB.com
    sub1.domainB.com
    etc..

Now, you can create a unique FTP account, UN and PW for each of these folders (sites) - meaning you could have complete access, while specified users could only access their specific "domain folder" or even a "subfolder" within the "domain folder"

I "think" plesk functions is a similar manner, but, Ill let a resident plesk expert comment on that...

    Hope this helps...

True, but if the OP is like me, s/he finds the addon domains a pain.

Not necessarily, there are Cpanel (WHM) hosts out there that provide true multiple domain hosting (which could be called very small reseller accounts).

Cartika -- sorry. I re-read that and went "Huh?" myself.
Thanks for clearing that up for that, that certainly helped!

LOL - yes and no - and youre right - I should choose my words more carefully -

true multiple domain shared hosting from a single control panel vs a reseller account managing multiple CP's for each domain ...

The people who benefit from this are those that really need a multiple domain shared hosting account, but are looking for a small reseller account to avoid the add-on domain management issues

I understood what he was saying, in regard to my saying Shared hosting unable to to what WHM can.

Anyway H-Sphere sounds like what I need, or maybe this Superhosting .

Completely agree, its a big pain to have addon domain on shared plan. There is much more flexibility and freedom, once you use WHM to host your multiple domains.

    lisadragon:

I can reccomend you one of my favorite and the one I am using for past six months. They are Sonataweb. They had a offer running in offer section sometime back http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=395953

Not sure whether, its still on, you can check with them.

They do custom plan as well, so you may explore them for your requirements.

    Wish you all the best.

    Hi Lisa,

I actually remember looking at your ticket. I think what happened (as I just went through our desk searching for it) our helpdesk went into a loop downloading tickets over and over again due to attachment on one the tickets that was sent to us. When that happens you end up with like 20 tickets in a matter of a few minutes, so I think what probably happened is that when we were deleting those, yours was mistakenly deleted.

Moveable Type does work fine on our servers though. I've had a few customers install it lately, and I tried it out a few days ago. Still learning it though so if you need support it'll a little bit longer than someone with experience in it.
