Can you recommend a good alternative to AffordableHost?
DotCanada seems intent on smashing up the good service and hard won reputation of AH, so can anyone recommend a host with service comparable to the old AH and similar pricing features?
Something stable, run by adults and costing somewhat less tha Pair?

affordablehosts good alternative is affordablehost which has changed name to axishost - same main 'adult' staff and same datacenter
other good ones should be , in no definite order, tera-byte, unitedhosting.co.uk, micfo.com, rochen, hostpc,site5 - you can go with any of this and probably you cant go wrong

classics,
you may also like to check out
whether your host
has
round the clock support ticket, live chat, forum
and has
clear policy on system resource usage and backups that suits you .
and , though not necessary, whether it is "saleproof"
that is, the next morning after you purchase ( or renew ) you find that your company is sold and you are in different hands which may not be having the same supportive strength and care.
Nothing is guaranted regarding when a company will be sold or not sold but you may find out the intentions perhaps

There is no way of telling is a company is "saleproof"
You can only go with established hosts and hope they will remain consistant.

Hosts can't recommend their own services because its against the rules.
If you find a host test out support before hand. Look for a support and uptime guarantee.
Starting your search here is a good start.

I keep hoping to read that DotCanada has gotten its act together and that we'll start to read good reports about AffordableHost again. That may still happen, but for those who need an alternative now, I recommend Enhanced Host. Their support is amazingly fast and always helpful, and after being with them for 1 1/2 years, I have confidence that they'll handle future problems just as well.
Their packages aren't exactly the same, but the pricing looks similar.
The owners, Gary and Marita, are definitely adults. Gary is one of the mods here, and you can read about Gary and Marita in this Hosting Tech article.
