    How To Test Server Connection Speed

    Hello guys im having a bit of problems my dedicated server is pretty fast i get about 320k when i download from it but right now im only getting about 20 - 30 k
    when i purchased it the company said it would be on a 100mbit im no expert but 20-30k is not 100mbit connection speeds i can send files faster than that with my DSL how can i test my server to see if it really is on 100mbit or how can i check wut is draining my bandwith

    Quickest way is to post a medium sized test file and ask browsing WHTers to download it. You'd get a pretty good idea of how fast other people can recieve the file.

    I'm getting 41KBps from ThePlanet, and 27KBps from LayeredTech (Savvis)

    I'm getting 21.2KB/sec from my home machine, 46.84KB/sec from one of my ThePlanet servers, 28.42KB/sec from my LayeredTech server, 36.95 KB/sec from a ServerMatrix Cogent/Unmetered only 6 hops away from yours.

    so wut do i do now i know thats not 100mbit how can i check wut is draining my bandwith

    Either open a ticket, or somehow contact support. This is most likely a hardware or network issue, neither of which you can resolve.

    I just did a quick check from home with a 1.5MB dsl connect and it took awhile at only 21KB per sec. I am in Chicago.

    i open a ticket and support says

    we are already aware of this issue it is some network problem and
    Data center is already working on it .
    we will update you when it is fixed.
    when i get this Email i will repost so u guys can check it again thanks for all the help

    run this in shell

    dd bs=1M count=10 if=/dev/zero of=filename

    Replace filename with whatever filename you want.
