The referrer is recorded by apache in the logs. You can always get it from there. So what are you trying to do? Just get the referrer of the current user to show it to them, or do you want to track your visitors, or do u just want to know where the visitors come from?
I'm interested in seeing where my visitors are coming from (such as a specific page for a search engine request or a link to my site from another website) and also where people are putting images of mine (such as in an avatar or livejournal)
I hope this is what you were looking for when you asked for me to explain what I want to do.
Originally posted by Wazeh Webalizer and http-analyze would give you a list of referrers from the apache logs.
What's your status with hosting? Do you have any sort of a hosting plan with anyone? (I'm assuming you do) And if so, what control panel do you have?
If you have CPanel, Webalizer and http-analyze are, like Wazeh said, your best bet. You can use these applications without CPanel, but if you have it then you should be all set. Webalizer will supply you with all of your hit, visit, referred information.
