aplus.net "cheating" to get high search engine ranking?

I modified my user_agent in Firefox to check out the competitions search engine results and came across a doorway page at aplus.net.

I understand that doorway pages are suppose to be made to "hide website code" and also used to rank high in search engines.

As far as I know, google is against doorway pages, or cloaking.

I can't understand why a huge company like aplus would risk getting banned on google just to "rank" higher.

Here is a screenshot of their doorway page:

Do a search in google for:
    domain-ecommerce-free-hosting-name-web

You will see their doorway page at the bottom, when clicking it it goes to the doorway pages then forwards to their main site.

This is nothing compared to what they have done in the past. Do a search. There was a thread here about them putting their data into peoples sites they host to bump there rankings.

I mean, I really have nothing against doorway pages if they're not used to fill up search engines with blargo its just very odd to see a hosting company of their size doing this. It would take one person to report them to google and they would be completely banned.

I doubt a single report is enough, but with a thread on WHT, maybe the signal can be more powerful.

I am one that has seen this same identical topic on these forums before and was reported last time. I believe that the more reports they get the faster they will get on to droping their listing completely. A pretty cheesy way to get rank IMO

A single report would work, it would just take longer for them to do something about it. If there are more reports, then yeah, they would get banned quicker.

Sleezy sleezy sleezy. This is nothing new for our friends at aplus.net. So I'm not surprised. They'll probably buy another press release to say that they hired a third party to raise their rankings and weren't aware of it. Just like they've done in the past.

    Yeah.. right. :yank: :yank:

I think their datacenter is a bunch of *Crap* How could you fill 12k SF. Thats HUGE, even with like 500 dedicated servers, or more.

This company is absolutally horrible. Anytime I buy a domain, they call and ask if I'm intersted in their wonderful new services.

The answer is no APlus.net. I'm a webhost.

They called me yesterday now that I think of it. They were like "Is such and such there" which is my business partner, I said this is him cuz I knew it was a telemarketer. He says "im calling from aplus.net, and was curious if you were still interested in our hosting plans". I told him, I was never interested in your hosting plans, and for your information I run my own hosting business, so no thanks.

That is a little sad, they have enough to spend on ads no need to go snooping around.

I received one of those calls also. I had no idea what they were talking about. They asked to "check out" their page and hosting offers. I never requested anything.

If you'll notice Aplus.net has been boosting their ratings via doorway. I've noticed and many other people have noticed you forbid this. They've done it before and been caught, they did a press release saying that a 3rd party site did it. It's unfair to all of us who follow the rules... please take care of this. Please

I decided to go to the source. I pretended that I wanted hosting so that I would get a better response from them. I started speaking to one guy who didnt seem to say much and then suddenly i was transfered to another guy:

danb: Welcome to Aplus.Net! I would be happy to answer any questions that you have. We can chat online or you can call me at 1-877-275-8763 ext 6639.

    Visitor23106: What just happened?

    danb: hi

danb: how can I help you?

Visitor23106: i was talking to someone else and it seems that i have been transfered to you

    danb: ok

danb: how can I help you with sales?

Visitor23106: well, I was interested in purchasing hosting from you guys, but after reading that you have been employing doorway pages to artificially boost your google rankings im not so sure

danb: you belive in every roomer

Visitor23106: It isnt a rumour, I have proof

    danb: o do you

danb: what type of hosting you looking to get?

Visitor23106: look at the first site on this page:

    Visitor23106: http://www.google.com/search?q=domai...off&start=1...

Visitor23106: its an aplus.net doorway page

danb: where are you located at?

danb: how can I help you with sales?

Visitor23106: Well, I am wanting to hear some kind of response as to why you are using these kinds of tactics. They arent the least bit ethical, and it makes me wonder if you guys apply the same ethics to hosting your customers.

    danb: listen

danb: I dont know what you are talking about

    Visitor23106: http://www.aplus.net/hosting/canada-...in-hosting.htm

danb: and you have not even given me your name and contact information

danb: so if you want to talk about hosting we can talk

Visitor23106: that is called a doorway page, an unethical way to artificially boost rankings, which is against google rules. Now, I want to find out why a large company such as yourselves would risk being banned from google over these kinds of pages, and I want to find out if these same ethics are applied to hosting your customers.
I was then transfered to another guy:

splatt: Welcome to Aplus.Net! I would be happy to answer any questions that you have. We can chat online or you can call me at 1-877-275-8763 ext 6935.

    Visitor23106: Hello

    splatt: Hello

Visitor23106: i asked to be transfered to someone as I have recently learnt that you guys have been using unethical methods to boost google rankings, and the sales person i was speaking to was not able to assist me

Visitor23106: I was suprised to learn that Aplus is using doorway pages in google to artificially boost rankings and gain traffic

Visitor23106: and this has swayed me in getting hosting from you, so I would like to talk to someone about it, and perhaps if the pages were removed I would be able to once again beging the process of getting hosting from you guys, and passing the word on that the pages are no longer in existance
*minutes go by with no response*
    Visitor23106: Is anybody there?
Didnt get a response and then gave up. Eventually i was automatically tranfered to someone else, but I didn't have the engery to repeat everything.

Aplus is shocking.....I would stay away from them.

EDIT: I tried one last time, and I think they no they can't get out of it:

toms: Welcome to Aplus.Net! I would be happy to answer any questions that you have. We can chat online or you can call me at 1-877-275-8763 ext 6678.

Visitor23106: I would like to purchase hosting, however I am no longer sure as I just read a thread on a webhosting forum with bad info on your guys

    toms: ok

toms: what doubts do you have?

Visitor23106: I am strongly against doorway pages and other spammish tactics to gain google rankings, so when i found this thread i was very dissapointed in Aplus:

    Visitor23106: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

toms: So anything you read is true?

Visitor23106: I checked for myself, and sure enough, Aplus is using doorway pages

*** toms: The connection with the operator has been terminated.

Hahahaha! I got a domain the other day, and got a call. I was thinking why a big company like them would be calling me because if 1 domain i bought. They also asked me if i was intreasted in getting a dedicated server with them. Yeah right! Im going to leave servermatrix/theplanets's great support and solid servers for them! Yeah, not in a million years.

But there SE cheating seem to work though. I found there site and got a domain because of google.

    Sorry about double post.

I think this company is going for impulse buyers like myself. I only bought a domain with them because it said $0.99 WITHOUT a hosting plan.

    ^$0.99 WITHOUT a hosting plan.

However, they charged me 9.94 USD.

Whats bad about these guys is when they call your clients and try to steal them also. We have had clients in the last 2 weeks call us and ask us questions about what we offered and such because they were comparing us to aplus. When we asked why; they stated aplus had called them with a long sales pitch about how much better they were then our company. How could they they make that statement when they know nothing about us.

I to put them front and center and called them, and after being on hold and getting transferred to 4 or 5 different lines I finally hung up the phone.

I was not sinking to their level. They do so many bad things, and suddenly I am at their level because I started a chat with the intention to get some kind of response about their unethical ways. Of course I have to say that I am interested in hosting.
