    * Favorite Dedicated Server CPU?

    Whats everyone's favorite dedicated server CPU?
    I'm a fan of the K7-Sempron 2800 right now
    Friends working at Intel report that they're having a lot of trouble keeping up with AMD, so I'm thinking competition is back!

    All my servers on Pentium 4.

    I don't like AMD that much. I have trusted Intel for my whole life.

    Am I the only one confused and getting an image of C3P0 and R2D2?

    I have no real preference, but like the CPUs in pairs!

    UltraSPARCs.... the more the merrier.

    Not that you see dedicated SUN boxen often, but, hey... nobody said it had to be realistic. Yeah, I always have to be different...

    That would be fun, but I am going to have to vote for
    8x Dual-Core AMD Opteron. Looks like they are getting a 50% or more increase in benchmarks over the single cores.

    But it is hard to find good unbiased benchmarks.

    AMD all the way.

    My favourite being Athlon 64's at the moment, cheap chips that perform amazingly well for the price.

    I think you mean the Ultra 2, not UltraSparc 2.

    They may be old, but the E4500 is still a mighty fine machine. Considering that there still seems to be a reasonable market for older Raq servers, if it's reasonably configured I'd imagine you'd have no problem leasing that for a reasonable price... Debian, and probably other distros, run on there.

    Eew, I'd never put linux on a Sun box, its a complete waste heh.
    This is a 8CPU/8GB box, and I've got some disks for it, but I've also got a FCAL array sitting somewhere.
