Selecting a new host provider is wearing on me! I have researched a number of sites and I have read reviews on this forum. I realize that all providers are not perfect, however, I'd like my move to be a productive one. Here are the specs I am working with:
I'm running concurrent surveys with MySql (vers. 4.+) and PHP 4.1.30. It is important not to have restrictions on the number of users on the database at one time (several providers indicate they limit users while other work off band width. The size of the databases will grow over time.
I also would like to use an e-commerce option - I have seen alot of the following: MIVA, Agora, OS - are there any advantages to one over another? Most sights require you to get a secure SSL seperately if you want to avoid pop ups. Are there sites that offer it as part of their package?
Disk space and data transfer rates will be important, I'd like to find at least 1000 MB space and 100 GB rate (monthly).
The sites I have been zeroing on are:
I have ruled out:
Network Solutions (aged MySql)
Cedant (current provider)
I am open to comments on my final three or if someone is aware of a plan that captures my wish list...please share!
I was trying to keep costs reasonable - under $30/mo. Your comment to consider the other options has crossed my mind as the long term alternative, so with that in mind, a provider that offers a step up plan may sway my final decision - so that I don't have to change providers a third time. I'd be testing the e-commerce to see if I can cover enough sales revenue - most through white papers or other downloadable products.
I think you'd be happy with Lunar Pages. They have a solid rep. The enemy of the good is the perfect. You could always start with Lunar Pages Shuttle and Move to the Voyager. It's a small investment if things don't work out and if you're successful then you'll have plenty of time to transition to a larger bandwidth plan.
