I'm looking to sell my established web hosting biz (2003). It was great while I was in college but now my career has taken off and I don't have the free time that I used to. I'm not in a major rush to sell it and will wait for the right offer.
The hosting company is cPanel based with a monthly sales income of around $500. At the moment there are about 175 domains all of which are small non-resource instensive (most accounts are 200MB account using less then 1/4 of that). On a 3.0GHz HT server with a gig of RAM I have never seen load even go to 1.0 (high reported in cpanel at about .4 usually .22 - .25).
As a web developer by trade the site is setup and almost 100% automated with custom scripts. I have a custom site very professional design (not template based). I have done quite a bit of work with optimization and without spending a single dollar on advertising I will still receive around 10 sign-ups per month.
I also have around 45 domains registered with an enom account, as well as kayako e-support integrated as my support interface with a fully paid license. The biz also has a web development service tied into it which brings in another couple thousand per year.
My accounts are not oversized (200MB - to 600MB virtual plan space - 1GB to 4.GB reseller) and the prices are very fair for the current market (no crazy overselling stuff).
I'm looking to sell the whole thing in one transaction and would not be willing to break up the customers. We have a good reputation and many customers send us recommendations on a regular basis.
Offers should be sent to [email protected] and questions can be posted here or sent to my email.
I also own my server and can include that in the sale as well (newly built 1U P4 Prescott 3.0GHz HT - 1GB 333MHz RAM - 120GB IDE - SATA Supported and MoBo has 800MHz FSB).
Clients: 43 @ $477.00 per month revenue (from hosting alone)
Actual Disk used: 10GB
Actual Bandwidth used: 45-50GB per month
Domains Registered: 40 @ $10/year
I'm looking for $6000.00 without the server included. If you want the server too I would throw it in for an extra $500 so total of $6500.00 with a brand new 1U server included.
I know that that is about 1 year at my current monthly hosting revenue but this business has an excellent footing and if you factor in the 10 new sign-ups every month without any advertising money spent -- with very little work you could easily double the current revenue in under 6 months. Then if you take into account the nice custom site layout (non-template), the custom automation, the esupport license, and the low resource-to-revenue ratio, as well as the integrated web dev biz (currently another $3000/year in sales). I think it is easily worth my asking price.
The business has no debt and you could host the customers however you wanted (I currently pay $35/month for cPanel license and colo the 1U server) you could get a dedicated or host them with your current setup, or whatever you want. If you want to buy the server I can get you a deal on the colo with my current facility.
I would prefer to sell to someone who is looking to keep the current business identity as that would be your best bet with the direction sales are headed (Max ROI). But it's your choice.
Email me if you want the domain info as I don't want to post that on here. Thanks.
A note about the web dev business. I have a guy who does the graphic design work at a great value. He is very talented and is willing to do the work. The actual back-end PHP dev I had been doing myself and working with a guy I met in college. I could set you up with these guys so that you could continue the web dev end of the business as well.
Nope we've been in business since Nov. 2003. The 10 sign-ups per month have been for the last 3 months or so. But the business is based on a free trial model so although we have 40 some paying customers we have a number of customers on a free trial basis as well (when it ends they have the opportunity to sign up as paying customer or to cancel their accounts. Around 80% end up paying customers -- automated free trial system). We put quite a bit of work into the business over the last 6 months and it has really become evident over the last 4 months or so (increases in sign-ups - increased site traffic).
The sign up script doesn't activate accounts on it's own. You must approve the orders. (that way we can wait for fraud checks and run are own checks on free trials --login to interface click yes or no the rest is done for you -- large account are activated manually). Everything should be working fine. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to access the site we dont' have any reported downtime. Thanks.
The only offer I haven't responded to was from a guy asking to take over my business and then pay me back 75% of what my business makes each month for the next year. If that was you are talking about I already posted that I'm only accepting actual sales transactions no partnership deals. If you made an offer that I didn't receive I'm sorry please re-send to [email protected].
If anybody has questions or comments please send them to me via email [email protected].
No, that was not my offer. My offer was a very fare one for what you are selling. Please check you inbox again, I've resent it to you.
BTW, there were some serious issues in the past few days w/ your name servers (checked it via dns reports) which resulted in not being able to resolve pmhhosting.com...it now seems to be fixed. Did this problem also affect your customers?
I think any sale would require speaking with a few of your customers we select to ensure they are not about to jump ship due to any unforseen issues on your behalf.
