  1. Here is something to offer your clients to fight the annoying referer spam !

I had enough of all the crazy referer spams on my Awstats and decided to implement a HTACCESS rule to block those spammers.
I thought it would be nice to share it with fellow WHTers.
Please share it with your customers too.
We shall join forces to combat referer spammers.

Create a file by the name of .htaccess at the root level and enter the following:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} (htmx.it|casino|phentermine|vicodin|viagra|hydrocodone.|here.ws|republika.pl|cxa.de|chat.ru|vergleich-zur-krankenversicherung.de|tzz.de) [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ %1 [R=301,L]

You can blacklist more keywords by adding em to the list.

The cool thing about this rule is that it redirects the spammer to himself, making him eat his own shoe.

Your competitors are cashing in with Cpanel XP & CpanelAPP, are you?

Thanks for sharing, but be carefull with large .htaccess files! Having a .htaccess file on a high traffic website can cause a slowdown of your server because with each and every hit apache (or whatever http daemon you prefer and utilize) will read this whole file.
