Kids tryin to scam you for money via paypal (funny)
This "kid" messaged me out of the blue today on aim. Screen name I use @ work, and I believe is listed on forums as my "AIM Screen name" (just an extra, not my main). He obviously used something within aim to find my ip address (not too hard) then actually used some intelligence to find the address the ip belongs to (again, not too hard). Then tells me he knows me from school, and list the local high school. Which is good dectective work, but too bad I never went to said high school. I don't even live in this town.
Thought it was funny. I'm guessing the paypal address is stolen (my guess) going to report it to paypal. (well, attempting to at least)
TPMPMK: hey
TPMPMK: i need your help
myaim: and you are?
TPMPMK: please send me $10 via paypal
TPMPMK: i need it asap
myaim: lol
myaim: and I said
TPMPMK: ill pay you $20 next time i get a chance
myaim: you are who ?
TPMPMK: Ray Panun
TPMPMK: please my grandmother died
myaim: and I know you from where?
TPMPMK: school
myaim: lol
TPMPMK: please man
myaim: I havent been in school for a long time
TPMPMK: yes i know
myaim: try your scam elsewhere
TPMPMK: no please
TPMPMK: just $10
myaim: then from what school did you know me?
TPMPMK: Colombia High
myaim: I never went to any "Columbia High"
TPMPMK: lol
TPMPMK: ok
TPMPMK: why not tho
TPMPMK: just $10
TPMPMK: no how bout $5
TPMPMK: that's a bargain!
myaim: whats your address then?
TPMPMK: *insert owner's address of the IP (ie. the ISP)*
myaim: no, I said your address child
TPMPMK: oh ok
myaim: so I can send the money
TPMPMK: do you have paypal?
myaim: you asked, what is your address?
myaim: I dont even think I know you, I know most of my "friends" email addresses

ZFX David: Yeah.
ZFX David: So obviously you're not that broke.
ZFX David: If you own domains/hosting.
TPMPMK: No actually I am.
TPMPMK: My grandpa lost his money in the enron scandle
ZFX David: Well, I feel bad for you, but trying to get people to give you money isn't going to work.
TPMPMK: He used to get a check for $3,000 every month
ZFX David: None the lesss, scam them.
TPMPMK: Actually I've made two dollars doing thos
TPMPMK: this.
ZFX David: Right, well if you feel this is entertaining fine.

Oh yeah that guy tried to get money off me. I don't know about you but I work hard for my money so why should he get it by doing nothing. People in my family have died too but I don't go begging complete strangers for cash.

Wow! It seems this kid has targeted just about everyone using AIM. I wounder if anyone has actually sent him any money. I would definitely report him if I were any of you. Too bad I don't use AIM, but if I did...I would gather as much information as I could and turn it over to the proper authorities.

If anyone else has had the "joy" of him contacting you, did you get his ip address? (open up a command prompt, type netstat, then click on direct connect, give in a few seconds and type netstat again)
I reported it to ebay as a possible (stolen) account via their help center. I attempted to call them (silly me, thinking I would get thru) waited for about 30 min, gave up.Happily hosting @ Dathorn.com (Since 3/2003), Ispeeds.net (Since 2004), & Quadspeedi.net (Since 7/2005)!

If you really wanted to cause him some pain, do a charge back ZFX-David on that $0.01 It would cause him a $10 fine. (then again that would just be mean).

Chargeback Settlement Fee. To cover the cost of processing chargebacks, PayPal assesses a $10.00 USD fee to sellers who are determined to be at fault for credit card payment chargebacks. (A chargeback, or reversal, occurs when a buyer rejects or reverses a charge on his or her credit card.) The $10.00 USD fee will be waived in those cases where the sellers have fulfilled all of the requirements of PayPal's Seller Protection Policy. The $10.00 USD fee will also be waived for all sellers participating in our PayPal Preferred program.

I really do not know if I should see this as shocking, sad, or pathetic. It's crazy on how far some people will go, in order to scam or con others. When it can be so easy for most people to simply get a real job. All you need is a little education and the will to work and you can get yourself a job. I know people who do not even have a High School Diploma or GED, who can still at least get part - time in some places still. So it's totally uncalled for when someone tries to go this low.
Why can't they have some dignity & at least try to find work? For the record if I ever wanted a "free ride". I could get one legally, as I qualify for SSI due to my heavy Asthma and Bronchitis. I have been told this buy a few doctors in my time. But rather I choice to go out and try to make an honist living... Rather then leach off of others. I'm even working on my own company (Atlantis Services). You'll never see me trying to beg or steal from someone, unless some how I ended up homeless (knock on wood for luck).
I guess this is why I do not use AOL, MSN, ICQ, and many of the other chat programs out there. You never know what some nut is going to try too do with them.Since April 2001 Atlantis Services - Proudly servicing everyone's web hosting needs!
