    VMWARE ESX Server Trial :(

I have had a trial of VMWARE running in my development network for a few days now.

The other day, teh main os (not the virtuals) crash, and i had to reboot the system (by cutting off the power). It is installed on a CentOS 3 install.

This broke Xwindows, some font configuration error, which i resolved.

however, now when i try to use VMware, i am old that the /tmp directory is full and it cannot run.

however, there are no files in /tmp and it is on the main parttion, so it shouldnt be out of space

    any ideas?

    thanks

Just curious, why are you running a base OS with ESX Server? ESX is Vmwares first product that does not use a host OS, but interfaces directly with the hardware. It does use a boot strap loader based on RedHat, but that's it. Not depending on a host OS allows ESX to do many things (such as manage resources) that the earlier GSX product could not do.

Actually the GSX server requires a host OS (either windows or linux is supported). The ESX works on any standard PC based hardware and requires no host OS.

    Hello,
You are correct about ESX not requiring any host O/S, however it will not work on just any standard PC based hardware. ESX actually requires a few specific things (like the server must have a SCSI controller) and even has a compatibility matrix for Hardware, found here:

    Just thought I'd chime in..
