We bought those exact rails for our dell blade 1855 system. Originally dell shipped fixed rails that looked similar. But amazingly, dell's engineers didn't realize that their fixed rails don't actually work to screw in to a real rack. So dell admitted that their rails, as simple as they are, don't work and looked all over for something that does. This is what they found. THey did pay for them though.
But my blade chassis weighs close to 270lbs and this thing says it's only rated for 200lbs! Dell says it's ok and I didn't have much of a choice as apparently there's nothing else out there. So to answer your question, as of 2 months ago, there were no alternatives.

Mary's our rep too. Only problem I really have is the fact I submitted a few designs (for D-rings, and an alternate rail config) to her about a month ago and have yet to hear back.
To rub it in, they sent out an email (you probably got it) on how they did custom work, designs, and metal fabrication, etc. Encouraging customers to contact them regarding designs (meanwhile we've already contacted, and gotten squat back from 'em).
Ahhhh well, heres to hoping my snippy reply to that email gets some kind of positive response .
