To run JSP or not to?

    Hello,
We're running a server with DirectAdmin Control Panel and I would like to know if you guys think JSP is ok to run in a web hosting environment?

    I'm thinking about using mod_jk/tomcat/apache.
Is there anything special I should think about when it comes to securing the server?

I'm a newbie to java/jsp. Is servlets enabled also if I enable JSP?

Is there a way to enable JSP only per virtualhost?

    Found this guide:
    galatea.com/flashguides/apache13-tomcat4-modjk-linux

Should I use the above guide or do you know of a better one?

    Thanks for all your help

Re: To run JSP or not to?

We are running shared hosting servers with JSP support for our clients...

The servers I have deployed I have used Jetty as my JSP compiler and Servlet container.. Jetty has a light footprint on memory, and doesn't consume alot of resources.. Customers were happy with it..

On some servers we used Tomcat, I am not a tomcat professional, but Jetty was always fine with me...

Yes, its fine, as long as you control everything, since Java envoirments uses Huge Memory..

Hmmm, simple answer to your question in general yes..

Is there a way to enable JSP only per virtualhost?
Yes, its very simple if you know how to configure apache config file..

I suggest you get a sys-admin to do this for you.. If this server is already populated, don't screw up everything causing downtime.. let a sys-admin do it..

If you insist on doing it your self, I'll post the links for you..
