all i'm looking for, but i can't find it!

    all i want is:

    5 gig disk space
    at least 80 gigs bandwidth

(important, these are all deal breakers)

    - SSH access
    - a guaranteed home path
    - query ports not blocked

so far i have just chewed through places.

i'm not going to go with anyone who will say that they will 'restore' my databases for me.

most places are inept, and two so far have responded with 'that database is too large'.

help me out here, i've got to get this site transfered asap!

places that have burned me already:

site5.com : did not give me the path i asked, then created a 'symbolic' link, not what i wanted/what was promised to me.
hostgator.com : did not offer SSH, but said they would transfer my .sql files. after 3 days and a lot of excuses, i'm rolling
acehost.com : blocked all ports on their servers except for 80, so server queries would not work.

i'm a little desperate, so thought i'd ask the community.

seriously though, no people who have some of these requirements and tell me they will 'work with me'. i've been told too many promises, so i literally need what i asked for!

You will need to contact the host before you sign up no matter what. Ask the sales dept. for a guarantee that you will receive the following you requested. Many will have to check with System admin.

$20 would be a good price range for something like this.

for a while i was going for the cheapest i could find, and man what a disappointment.

    lots of wasted time.

Getting a VPS account should handle all of your needs.

SSH access is not given out freely unless there is a genuine need to do so as it can pose a security risks for the server as a whole if not done correctly.

If you have some specific budget around which you want all these then it will be very much effective for you to search for the host that you are looking for. You can find plenty of suggestions in this regards.

what i should ask, is who out there can do what they say.

i always goto that live chat, and talk to someone, and they always promise x,y, and z.

then i get there, and no dice. that's why i'm getting frustrated.

    lots of wasted time.

who can do this for me?

Get a VPS account and you can get what you want. You will have SSH to your VPS space so you can do the move yourself. You will be able to create home path and you can determine via your installed firewall as to which port you want to allow and which you want to block.

Yes, however a decent VPS starts around $40/mo which is twice your budget.
    What's your budget?

    Seriously, what's your budget?

Ah well, that's true. You have to pay for what you get.

You'd need to aim higher than that for what you want. Sounds like a VPS is what you need.
