Looking for a host.

Hello.

I have a client who has some web hosting needs that have made finding a suitable home for them a little difficult.

The client is the American Psychology and Law Society - a branch of the APA that claims more than 3500 members.

The site is built on php, mysql, but more importantly the admin of the site has the need to email every member once per quarter to alert them to the release of their latest newsletter. This is a simple text email that basically says 'hey, come check out the new newsletter'.

Anyway, having some trouble finding a host willing to take on a client who needs to send out 3500 emails 4 times or so per year. I've already written a cronjob and app that can balance the load by sending out X emails every X minutes.. so I'm not looking to freeze up the server for an hour while these things go out or anything crazy like that.

If you have a recommendation of a host I could contact with regard to these needs, please let me know.

I guess you can place your quote in the request section. The following is the link:-
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php

You will not find host offering you plans over in this forum. But you will surelly get plenty full suggestions from the other members.

He means to visit http://www.site5.com

They are a solid host and should be able to do what you're asking.

mrforbes,

There are a lot of hosts who can meet your needs - just be sure to be upfront with the e-mail issue that way they can make note of it.

Hunt around - just again be careful to do your research ahead of time (welcome to WHT!)

Frankly, I have actually had someone asking me what to do for a company (restaurant) who sends emails to their customers every day. They have about 5000-8000 customers.

I was like... eerrr... I'd have to consult my DC about that 1st and eventually found out that it is all considered SPAM (if anyone does complain).

We have colo servers but the DC still said "If we receive any complains at all from your clients stating that you're spamming them, we'll disconnect you".

So, I'm not too sure if anyone would be too keen on taking on your order.

Good Luck Anyway!

Have a WONDERFUL day.

aodat2,

As long as there is a double opt signup (enter e-mail, verify e-mail and later on have the option to unsubscribe via e-mail) I don't see how there is any issue at all.

There is always going to be a person or two whom whine about anything/everything - if your DC disconnects you for a single person complaining out of 8000 then they have some issues.

Of coz I'm not reffering to 1 or 2 persons.

I'm reffering to about 10 of them or so. Not small numbers such as 1 or 2.

Thank you!

10 people out of 8000 is a very small number to complain. What datacenter are you talking about?

Thanks for the replies so far, sorry for asking for the wrong thing in the wrong forum. That'll teach me to read the forum rules more closely.

In my case, there are no worries about people complaining, the whole reason they subscribe(and pay) is to get these newsletters (and the related emails for when they are released)

As others have said, if you are to keep your list as a double opt-in list you will help to minimize many of these complaints. 10 complaints a day may become quite a large amount built up over time. Work at creating a very easy to see clause about unsubscribing within every newsletter, as well as run periodical notices to your newsletter members informing them of their subscription and if they wish to cancel all they need to do is "...."
