There had to be some sort of change with the drop in popularity noticed for Monday Night Football. I think ESPN will do an awesome job with it and turn things around.

ESPN feeds for free, what? I've never heard of ESPN programming being broadcasted on free tv.... I think you're mistaken. i know ABC and ESPn are both owned by Disney, but you will not find MNFbroadcasted this year on network television.

One can only hope that they will fire Joe Theisman and not allow him to be on Monday nights.

ABC blew it when the got rid of Dan Deirdorf and tried that bizarre experiment with Dennis Miller.

The only downside to this is that now we'll have to hear more of Michael Irvin's mouth since he's part of that MNF Pre-Game show. Irvin is an idiot.

Only if the teams playing are in your local market.

The NFL will continue to show all cable games on free, over-the air television in home markets. That means local stations will carry ESPN's Monday night games in the cities of the teams involved.

This is good news. ESPN has better broadcasting equipement and is able to transmit in full HDTV and also surround sound. ABC had to upconvert everything to HD.

Yes, Basic CABLE package.... not free TV. Those that are without CABLE are out of luck.

    I doubt that very much.
I think the ratings will jump.

Not EVERYONE has cable, anyone with local channels has ABC, so unless people prefer ESPN broadcasts over ABC broadcasts, I doubt the ratings will go up.

    Exactly my point.
ESPN does a far better job, therefore the ratings will go up.

Plus, you have to understand the football fan. Many people will be upgrading to cable when football season starts.

You're right about that, but I don't expect ratings to shoot up by a lot, if not at all.

A few fanatical football fans, like myself, cancel cable and get DirectTV so that we can see MOST games. I think ratings will stay the same pretty much, they may lose a few "regular joes" that can't afford cable, but in that case are they even being monitored for "ratings". Do you even know anybody who is be monitored for ratings? I sure don't...

As long as MNF doesn't start looking like a dito of Sunday night's game, viewers might be ok with it. Some of the famous MNF ABC charm will be lost though. MNF is the kind of show you anxiously wait for all week, I hope it stays that way.

I agree with that totaly BigWrench. MNF always seemed to be something special. I'm hoping that it will not be like the ESPN Sunday night games were the last couple of years... cause those were lame for the most part.

I heard that ABC is taking over the sunday night games that ESPN used to do....

It's actually NBC taking over Sunday Nights. It was also said that the "main" football event of the week will no longer be MNF, but actually Sunday Night. This would make sense since obviously ESPN is cable, while NBC is a free network channel. It should be interesting.
