Your best bet is to get a freeware file recovery app and recover the "C:\documents and settings\YOUR_PROFILE\ntuser.dat" file and create a re-create profile of the same name, and place the restored "ntuser.dat" in the new profile, then login as that profile.
"ntuser.dat" is actually a registry file that stores your settings and most other preferences (The HKEY_LOCAL_USER info to be exact)... Make sure you backup this file regularly!
Also, if you have a backup of this file, and windows starts acting up really bad, you can usually restore this file via Administrator Account, and recover from some windows problems... This has saved me countless neeldess, troubleshooting & reinstalls.
