    PDU vendors

We've been using APC PDUs for 3 years now, since we began hosting. But for the past 6 months or so, the quality of their new units has deteriorated significantly. I'm not sure what's going on with them, but power is a pretty serious issue with us and we need to find a new vendor.

A surprising percentage of new APC PDUs we buy simply aren't working. Typically we buy ap7930s, ap7841s (for blades) or even the older 9227 and 9228s. Either they don't report current properly, they don't provide power or some major problem. We've also noticed circuit breakers simply not working for a couple PDUs. We have to always fully load test all PDUs before using them. APC always replaces bad PDUs, but we can't be having these kinds of problems.

What other vendors do you guys use? Who's the most reliable? That's all we really care about when it comes to power, reliability.

You could try Bay tech but be aware they are all build to order so be sure to give yourself a 2 to 3 week lead time when ordering.

We've been using BayTech RPC27 units for awhile now and I'm a big fan. Vertical units, 20 remote reboot ports, BayTech also has various other units to fit your needs, etc. We've only had one issue, and we're honestly not sure if the issue was with a BayTech unit or possibly something else. It only happened once, and that was several months ago, with nothing happening since. There was a BayTech with a 15A load that had the breaker go and after that the system read there was a max spike of 21A. We think it may have just been a bad reading, as it would be nearly impossible to have a real spike that high, but we have had no issues since.

Note: The lead time is a little longer, but just plan ahead and you should be fine. We've never had to wait more than 2 weeks.

Thanks Karl, I'll try them out. Where's the best place to buy them, directly from baytech?

Liebert makes the best small PDU hands down. The manufacturing quality is far better than any listed above. I've been usign Liebert products, trouble free, for many years and their networking software is great and easy to use.

Certainly not the cheapest but one failure will cost way more than their equipment.
