    Open QuickTime, and go to:
    Edit
    Pereferences
    QuickTime Pereferences

    Uncheck "QuickTime system tray icon"

    Try this:

    Click Start

    Click Run

    Type "msconfig" (without the quotes)

Click Startup, farthest to the right

Look for Quicktime and uncheck it

    Should do it!

Even if you download the installation file but dont' install it, there is this annoying icon in the taskbar.

You have to disable it from msconfig. (registry)

You can simply right click on the icon to get rid of it.

Right clcking on it and selecting hide doesn't complete do it.
It only hides it, but qtask.exe is still there.

    Remove it from the registry.

shhhhh, some people out there don't know about great tools, so I guess i'll have to be nice a provide a link.

http://sysinternals.com - AutoRuns < get that little tool, filter out microsoft signed applications and you'll be deleting startups in no time.

If you use Spybot S&E, it also provides an editor to manage startup entries in the registry. You just need to turn on Advanced mode to see it.
