I've been a client with turnkey for almost 6 months. My first problem with them was that one of my sites was kinda "big" (Php with a Mysql backend, 7k daily visits). The *big* site brought the server to its knees. I was using merely half of what i bought of bw/quota. Ok, I moved the site to another server (btw cyberwurx rocks!).
Then, came the outages. Loooooong outages, and the explenation always came hours later.
Robert became popular for beeing a stand up guy, but with a day job. That got solved when he hired group of guys (and a gal - hi yapi!!) to handle the support. But, even then, the up time sucks. Even now, that they got bought.
If you are reseller and you like the prices at turnkey, my advice is: reconsider. Even now, the main server is down, (yesterday were 12 hours, today we are looking at a 4 hours outage).
I have been with them for a long time stuff like this happens about every 3 or 4 months we just have a month of problems it's really annoying and fustrating but they give free months of hosting and stuff when it's really bad.
Latly i really dislike that they put 4 servers onto this "beast server" which loads so slow. I wish they would just move 1 or 2 of the servers back and have half decent loading times
i paid for 1 year also, but after experiencing so many outages and problems, i bailed my major sites from their servers and moved to a different host. now i still have an account with them, but i hardly use it. maybe that's their plan... bait users with a 1 yr contract, then frustrate them until they stop using their servers in order to bring their loads back down... :\
Originally posted by crtvlynx im still with them but no 1 year contract..more of the afraid to switch/still looking problem here.
I wish I was on a monthly contract.
I was also sort of in your situation, except I wasn't able to cancel my contract (1 yr), but I did move on and find a new host and transfer my client sites out of Turnkey. Now I just have a non-critical personal site with Turnkey. The new host I tried is http://www.sonataweb.net/. I've had an account with them for several months now and have been very happy with them -- no problems at all. If you want my advice, give Sonata Web a try. They're more expenssive than Turnkey, but in the end you get what you pay for (as I've had to learn the hard way).
