I've been searching around for about a week now trying to find a good host that is reliable, will refund my money if necessary, etc. I've found some that sound good, but finding reviews on them hasn't always been easy.
I'm hoping maybe some of you guys are hosting with a company that does something similar to what I need.
Having read a bunch of posts already, I know you guys typically ask what is needed.
I'm looking for a web host that can/does:
* has Imagemagick installed
* allows for MySQL databases
* allows for at least 3 fully-functional domains
* multiple sub-domains (10 minimum)
* allows for Civic Space (based on Drupal) to be installed
* has real mailing list software (not simple subscribable lists)-- could be Mailman, EZMLM, etc. As long as there is an easy-to-use web interface
* a good number of e-mail accounts as well as redirects
* multiple FTP log-ins
Space-- minimum 800 MB
Traffic-- minimum 5GB
I'm accustomed to a server running Apache over Linux.
I would like to not spend more than $20 a month.
I was looking at Host Excellence's "Advanced Plan,", but I can't seem to find much information either good or bad on them.
My current hosting provider is Hostings. They've been a good company to be with. They've consistently added on more space, traffic, etc. since we first hosted with them about 5 years ago. We even have a great price right now, as they matched the price of another company.
The problem is that they aren't interested in installing software that is now needed by so many businesses and organizations (such as mailing list software).
I'd really like to get a hosting provider soon, as I am in the process of building a new site and have one we just got up and running last week. It's be a lot simpler to get these moved over as quickly as possible.
PHP is supported by many of the hosting companies today. You can easliy find any hosting company which gives this support. Also the features that you are looking for along with the package should not be very difficult to find.
You can use the WHT search feature in order to find out reviews about the company that you are interested in. You can also judge the performance for the company by yourself. This can be done by testing the responce time for support they are offering and using the other support features to be sure if everything is looking good.
I've run some searches on a couple of the companies, but can't seem to find much of anything. Most of them seem to drift over to discussions on another company.
PHP hosting is fairly easy to find, but I've run into many servers where I couldn't install Civic Space (godaddy.com is one). Apparently it has to do with access to the htaccess file or something like that.
The two I'm looking at currently are Hosting Excellence and site5.
It's beginning to look like site5. In searching through the site, I came across their name. I've been reading all over the net, and I like them. Plus they allow month-to-month paying (I love that, especially since my clients pay month-to-month).
I'm looking at the reseller plan since I want to host many domains.
You should have no problem to find a good reseller plan here, but do you need in log panel and separate disk space for each domain?
If not you could use addon system for your domains. Find a good hosting company with unlimited addon domain system, and check if the support system is good. Contact the hosting company, find out how long it takes before you get support. You should love a hosting company with cpanel and fantastico script install system. Easy and no problem to install php scripts.
Good luck to you
I think Site5's Horsepower plan has everything you're looking for. I think they're probably the lowest cost multiple domain shared hosting plan I've seen. I've been very happy with their reliability and service for my reseller plan.
