hosting with ecommerce program
I am looking for a host that provides a good ecommerce program. I have heard that Miva is pretty good. I have looked at a few - Yahoo, Media Temple, and Superbhosting.net.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions that may be helpful?
I know any host that runs cPanel with Fantastico offers the following
You ever tried those? If you want, contact me on AIM (profile) and I can show you some live ones that I've encountered. I'm hosting them, therefore, not gonna post them here for bandwidth sakes.
CubeCart is great for " smaller" project or those with limited php/html/coding talent. Great free mods also.
OScommerce for the big boys ...
Never tried ZenCart, but I personnally use the not-free XCart Gold. Amazing....
And yes, Cpanal with Fantastico will give you the 3 carts with auto-install.
I am pretty good with HTML, but I only have limited experience with PHP.
I know that using something like Yahoo Merchant Solution is pretty easy. What would be the downsides to using it?
Also, does anyone know how Miva compares to these others (CubeCart, OS Commerce, Zen Cart)?
I have a friend that use/used Yahoo Store. The downside is service... He got blocked from going into his admin and spent, while I was there, a good hour going in circle. I left, so I do not know if he resolved the issue.
Yahoo also cost way more I think then a 4.00/month package with all three carts...
I don't know much about Miva, so I will abstain of commenting.
So I can get packages for as low as $4.00 a month with those other carts (CubeCart, OS Commerce, Zen Cart)? How difficult are these to use?
Very easy to use actually, and yes you can get a plan as low as $4.00/mo. Like I said contact me and I could give you some live examples of CubeCart, OS Commerce, and Zen Cart.
Arxor- I tried to get you on AIM but it says you aren't online right now.
hmm...whats your aim? Cause I'm online...
I hate aim ... and ICQ ... I am a dinosaur....
If Arxor can set you up, go for it. I would try CubeCart if I were you.
If he can't , well I could but I wasn't really here for that... You can always rep[ly here, and I would email you.
But forget Yahoo ....
Yea I'm just showing him how much easier cube cart is.
You might contact Josh over at

Oscommerce and paypal should be easier for you to use. Oscommerce is offered by many hosts today as it is quite easy to use. You just need to install the script provided by them and get the shopping cart set-up.
Not sure about the merchant account. Some of the hosts provides you with the merchant account and some do not. You will need to have a merchant account also in order to have the shopping cart complete.
Yahoo can provide some pretty good customer support but there are some other problems. One they tell you have to use their MAP which is not true. There are other MAPs that also support Yahoo.
Yahoo charges you up to 1.5% on the transaction - this is on top of what your MAP will charge you.
Plus if you are not based in the United States, it is even more difficult for Yahoo to support you thru a merchant account. Their gateway is only compatible with First Data Merchant Services.
